Thanks for the advice fellas. I am going to try the over the counter stuff and trying to relieve some stress and exercise. I am in the process of purchasing a new house and busy with work, so I think stress has recently pushed my numbers up.

Lots of it is hereditary.

Your instinct is correct - you should not be getting on medicine at such a young age when you can easily use diet to get things where they need to be.
Unless you have a real outlier type of congenital or genetic massively high cholesterol, simply change your diet. Stop eating sugar (or any non-fibrous carbs) and start eating a lot of natural animal fat. Cut out all vegetable oils and grains. (Yes, oatmeal is entirely counterproductive for your cause here.)
And what about insulin resistance? Did your doctor take any measurements of your serum insulin levels or any markers for cardiovascular inflammation? Sounds like you are working with incomplete information.

Anyone have any experience with red wheat rice? The doctor suggested coupling this with exercise, and a heart-healthy diet for 3 months until i get on something. I have read some weird reviews on the stuff, and haven't found a lot of positive reviews.
Should i go ahead and get on the medication he suggested if i didn't go that route? I think he recommended crestor.
I'm not as fit as i used to be, but i am 6' 190. I don't really consider myself overweight. After researching some stuff, it does seem like my LDL numbers are pretty high. Everywhere i have read says "very high risk" of heart disease. Just makes me feel about nervous about waiting to get on a pill. I guess bad cholesterol for a few years won't kill you? i'm assuming its bad cholesterol for many years is what kills you.
Also, someone had mentioned my insulin levels. He said I wasn't in risk for diabetes?

Bump. Not sure why the thread did't get bumped to front page.
