Blows my mind how much they spend on these things. I've seen them drop 50k on a 200 sqft "tiny house" You can buy a badass camper / rv / motorhome for that price with a ton more room.

Exactly why I'm going to concentrate on building tiny homes that incorporate "green", semi off the grid systems. The mark up on price per sq/ft is a builder's dream. It does save the owner money in the long run if they don't move, so really it's beneficial for those staying put.

The supply for these type homes is way lower than the demand. I have several ideas that will definitely capitalize on this growing trend.

There were shipping containers all over the place on the MS Coast after Katrina.

Of course there were, just as there were mobile homes. The surface area and shape allows for uplift. The kicker? They're still recognizable. They're sitting on top of the litter of the stick built homes.

A house is only as good as the foundation. I'd rather be surrounded by steel that's strapped during a significant weather event though.

There are many things you could to make the home less vulnerable to wind, you just have to divert the wind.

I was down under the bridge at Chef around Downman Road after Katrina and saw quite a few railroad cars, tankers and boxcars beat to shreds and one boxcar was lodged about 20 ' above the ground in two trees. Pretty wild looking.

There are people who can love happy lives in these homes.

The hipster bandwagon types will get tired of them real soon!

Tired of what? If done right, you can live mortgage free and almost utilities free. Plus you don't have space you don't need with decorative styles that will be obsolete and require renovation.

It's just the most logical decision. Some don't want it, I understand, but many people do.

If they were geniuses they'd live in a van in a parking lot instead

You're being sarcastic, but that google kid will certainly be a millionaire by 30 if he lives in that van until 30, which at that point he could purchase a pimp little home with cash and still have baller money to invest or play with. On top of that, 30 years old is still young.

The dude clearly is a genius, just not in the way we normally talk about. Wish I would've been that smart at his age.

For one person it's fine, for a family of four, it's retarded. People need space from other family members at various points and the elements don't always allow outside to be an option.

I'm hooked on those tiny living shows, but want to throw the remote when they remark on how small the space is.

100 sq/ft is trying way too hard, but on the flip side, I'll never live in anything above 1,500 sq/ft. Too many people go fricking broke maintaining a huge house, huge utility bills, huge mortgages, only to fill it with shite they don't need.

I agree and those people are called poors...

They put the "tiny house" in THEIR BACK YARD! Something about their house was vacant? Just buy a camper already and have more room.

Poors or just have better money management skills. It could be either one.

They put it there until their house sold, their house is on the market. They wanted to adjust to living there before the house sold.

I love watching house hunters, even the tiny house ones. No way in hell I could live in a tiny house though on a permanent basis, I'm too claustrophobic. However, some of those wouldn't be so bad to live in for say a vacation in some beautiful location.

I'll agree but 1,500 is pretty small a nice 2,500 sqft 3bed 2 bath is pretty comfortable without breaking the bank

Those people on this show are crazy for downsizing that small! I would get a tiny house as a vaca home by a lake but not to live in full time.
