11 years

I filed

I tried for literal years to get him to get help for mental health problems. He refused, cancelled the appointments I’d make, stopped working, and slept all day after binge drinking all night. I became more like his caretaker than his wife. We were really bad for each other in the end. No kids, thankfully. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done since I felt codependently responsible for him.

We both upgraded in our next marriages. I genuinely wish him well.

16 years out, my mind is still fricked up with the whole situation. She gave up the kids for him. She was reduced to supervised visits after she still kept him around after he was convicted of beating her and our son.

This is insane. Most parents would drag themselves across broken glass every day to be with their kids. Something is fundamentally broken in any woman who’d choose a man over her children.

Divorce rates go down as income goes up. So, less trashy means less divorce.

Elon Musk divorced 3 times, twice to the same chick.
Larry Ellison divorced 5 times.
Bill Gates divorced.

So much for your theory,
Thanks for playing

Also I want to point out the vast majority of divorces are filed by women. In today’s legal system with there are simply too many laws that favor the woman in the divorce settlement. Some states are incredibly harsh on the male - one state I know for sure is Colorado. It’s almost criminal what happens to the male - burdened with with excessive child support and alimony judgements to the point they have almost nothing afterwards…

You are dim aren't you? You probably will end up in a divorce. Stay in your basement.

I've never been divorced but my parents were. It was certainly difficult for the kids. Thankfully, I'd say that's pretty unlikely in our marriage.

It's unusual to see comments like yours, but I'd say that my parents marriage was mostly because mom got pregnant pretty young and wouldn't have likely survived long term either way. They were like oil and water together.

I don’t know if the “most” is as much as you think. Divorce rate wouldn’t be so high if we had more great parents in the world. An awful lot of selfish people having kids it seems.

Posted by cpp2208 1/31/25 at 9:53 pm to Jim Thorpe Those who divorced with young children do you have any advice? I’m about to go through one now. Married 9 years, together for 16 years total. Wife dropped it on me right before the holidays. 6 year old son. Really worried about how he will take it.

My youngest was 6 whenever I went through mine. And she begs to live with me every other weekend that I have her.
Unfortunately, there is no way that I could win the custody battle that it would take.
I believe that my daughter will be able to choose who she wants to stay with whenever she turns 13.

Jake88 pontificates "Smart Wealthy people don't get divorced because they don't marry trash"

Meanwhile Elon Musk & Larry Ellison combine for 8 divorces.

Anecdotes vs statistics. Do you not understand after this has been pointed out numerous times?
