I have a wedding to go to in late August and the lovely Mrs. informs me I have to wear a suit and my old stand by from 10 or so years ago will not cut it. I have a job where business casual is the dress code in the office. I live in an area where most social gatherings are casual. I have worn a suit MAYBE 4 times in the last 10 years. So obviously my knowledge of the latest style is woefully lacking and that's why i came to the OT GQ.
Do I get matching coat and pants, 2 button or 3, vented back or flat, single vent or 2, color, fabric?

Indoor or outdoor? Day or night?

Four weddings and funerals in a decade? You lead a charmed life.

Go to Dillard's. Get a sports coat and some nice dress pants. If it has been a while you might need to get a new dress shirt. Your body has changed over the years. They have a tailor usually at the store.
Do you have nice dress shoes?

Get you a couple of these:
Everyone will be wearing them by that time.

You need to invest in a nicely-tailored blue suit. Get a white button down (that's not transparent). If it's more on the "casual" side like you say, skip the tie. Cognac (light brown) leather shoes and matching belt.

Thank you Tigress. I ran the pic by the wife. She loved everything and I have the shoes and belt already. I lobbied hard for no tie.....I was informed 1 will be worn.

It's late August. Get a thin shirt.

I hear the leisure suit is coming back.

Don't get any of that trendy Eurocut shite. Go get a decent 2 button traditional suit in Navy or Dark grey. It can be worn for all occasions.

yay glad I could help
Women love nothing more than a well-dressed man, when it's called for of course.

Make sure you don't buy whatever is behind the link OweO just posted

If you are going with this link from Macy's, I would lean more towards the light blue one vs. this bright blue, but that's a matter of personal taste. Can't go wrong with either. Blue is sharp year round, any occasion.
