I think some feel Rolex is the absolute pinnacle of the horology spectrum and that is where I can agree to disagree. I feel at retail Rolex owns it, and rightfully so. It's when some are still paying large markups ( has now somewhat corrected) for certain sports models when other universally more prestigious/ finer attention to detail timepieces can be had for the price
I dunno man. I'm not one of those Rolex Uber Alles guys, but Rolex really does own the sport market. The GMT Master II pretty much stands alone, for example. And sure, you can get a Reverso or even a Breguet for the price of a Rolex, but if I'm going to buy a one and done watch, it's going to be a sport model, not a dress watch.

I went ahead and bought the one from Swiss Watch Expo
I got all hyped over a watch thread and didn't see this lol. Congrats. She will love it. Most days I'm wearing an Explorer 124270. The whole range is just excellent, and its under the radar and supremely legible.
I've talked to those guys at SWE and come close a couple of times. They were willing to face tme to show me several different examples of a referency I was looking for which was very helpful, and they typically have a huge inventory. Also give a bit of a discount for using a wire xfer.

the thing i love the most about this thread and other watch discussions in general is its getting people away from the stupid-apple-watch-on-a-wrist mentality that has been so prevalent.
well made watches are both functional and beautiful jewelry that compliments the man (or woman) wearing it.
there are so many high end watch manufacturers outside of the big names and such beautiful pieces that there is something for everyone.
anyway i'm rambling but i have been a mechanical watch fan since my high school graduation gift of a beautiful seiko from my parents which has gotten lost over the years

high time men get back to dressing better and that goes for wristwatches too.

Is Jomashop legit or stay away from?

It seemed a little higher priced to me compared to Swiss Watch Expo. I get my watch today, so I'll come back here and update on the quality, etc.

I have the blue dial datejust. It’s a beautiful watch. However, I would consider a neutral color or rose if she didn’t ask for blue

Legit.

They're legit, but pay attention to warranty. For example, buy a Tudor from them and your 5 year fully transferable Tudor warranty is void, but you get the Jomashop warranty, which is incredibly inferior.

What is your opinion of Ball?
They have an interesting back story, and I like the look and feel, but i don't see many out and about.

Never owned one but I generally like them. They have made a lot of effort to produce a lot of in-house movements and are generally a good value. They emphasize robust movements with high shock and magnetism resistance though I think most of that is overkill that looks interesting on a cut sheet but isn't very necessary in day-to-day life just like helium escape valves and water resistance over a real 50m. The thing I do detest is their dials that have Arabic numerals made up of tritium gas tubes, they are too large and clumsy and appear to be built out of Legos. Tritium tubes have pros and cons, they don't have to be "charged" like Superluminova and its analogs but it does decay and sooner or later will be effectively dead. It takes a while though as the half-life is 12.33 years IIRC.
