You understand that W NC/E TN was screwed regardless where it tracked, right? Helene was a big storm. If you would look at the very first track issued by the NHC, back when Helene was still a PTC, they nailed the track. It wasn't just the NHC that had a very good forecast, the WPC and the local NWS office had great forecasts. When wording like, historic, generational, life-threatening, catastrophic, etc. are used in forecast discussions it means they know it will be bad.
Ignoring a forecast does not mean you weren't warned.
