He was given permission to be a dick to Job. That's it. And after 'falling' to hell, he is no ruler. He just suffers with no power, no horns, no tail, and no fancy trident. All these ideas formed over hundreds of years of preaching to convince people they need to pay up in any economy.

And yeah, the devil fricks Job's life up. Not sure how you can take it any other way than he has some power.

Well, there are all manner of lesser imps and demons, but the great Satan hisself is red and scaly with a bifurcated tail, and he carries a hay fork.

There's just so many assumptions, poor translations, logical holes, incongruencies, etc. that some of the most popular beliefs were never there in the beginning. I find the fact that so many people believe ridiculous details as hard to believe as the details themselves.

My favorite two are the fall from grace and the rapture. Neither are described in the bible but people talk like they're scripture.
