These data centers and power plans are going to drain our aquifers and we'll be drinking river water soon. But at least we have jobs.
Umm maybe they’ll use the river for water hence why it’s being built near it. You’ve got to be a liberal.

For cooling? Why would a data center consume a lot of water and not reuse water for cooling? Most of them aren’t very close to large rivers.
I know the nuke has a feed from the river for emergency cooling.
Exxon and other plants in Baton Rouge may pull from the ground and not from the river. That needs to change.

This. They pull millions of gallons/day from the ground and the aquifers are seeing saltwater intrusion. Meanwhile, there is a river adjacent to the plants. I understand their reticence to change as it will require significant investment, but their draw from the aquifers dwarfs any others and there’s no good reason that this should be allowed to continue.

The thing is, Those permanent jobs will mostly be jobs that can be done Remotely from anywhere in the World. They will not be local jobs. If you look at the Meta Careers page Rayville site, you can see those jobs will be high end engineering jobs. The temporary jobs will be construction and labor jobs. These DC are designed to run off very little manpower. I work in the Tech industry and know these facilities very well. The only onsite personnel will be to maintain physical maintenance. Kenny Harvard tried to make it seem that all these jobs will benefit the local community but in reality, they will benefit the parish in taxes. I;m only stating all of this because I have been seeing comments on The St Francisville Rants and Raves site like "when is their job fair". Its not a Walmart. That's NOT how Meta hires. Besides the amount of people actually qualified to work here is almost slim to none, in the surrounding Parish. It seems most people believe if they can work a cell phone or PC, that gives them the experience to wiork in the TECH industry lol

I view the best part of this project being the infusion of tax money and the lack of new people coming into the Parish. I think the majority of the Parish will feel the same way.

The amount of natural gas it takes to run one of those places is equivalent to what it takes to run a city with 20,000 people
