Hiking is probably out

that's the only reason to go up there. everything else is tourist traps. think Myrtle Beach in the mountains.

you could at least do a short hike, Laurel Falls, even the 5 yr old could do it, it's paved, barely a mile with rest benches and it's a beautiful fall.

That sounds doable. I know how my little one is and I don't want to be carry a 35-40 lb kid over a 5 mile hike I don't consider that enjoyable.

Any must do's or sees? What about places to eat? This will be my first time there. Give me the scoop on this place.

Pigeon Forge is a very touristy area, way more so than Gatlinberg and people will hate on it. But they are both fun.

PF has tons of stuff for the family, pretty much anything you could want to do from shows to theme parks to buffets to go karts.

Gatlinberg has a lot of touristy stuff, but it's location in the cove of a mountain chain makes for impressive vies, especially if you stay in a chalet.
I also like to stay on the strip (it depends on the vacay large group and couple then we get a cabin in Wears Valley, us + kids then place on main strip in either city) depending on the trip.

In Gatlinburg the aquarium is really cool, but the Smokies are the real attraction.

Kids are 9 and 5. I don't want to do anything to where I'll end up having to carry the 5 year old around. Hiking is probably out and I don't think he's old or weigh enough for ziplining.

Yeah, don't do any of the hikes I suggested with the 5 year old.

Laurel Falls is a little over a mile and asphalt from what I remember. It's an easy hike.

Chimney Tops trail has the creek right at the start and it's a good place to screw around, I have caught a bunch of trout just right there. There is a picnic area about a mile or so before you get to the Chimney tops trail head that is also along the creek. Good place to hang out and eat lunch.

Cades Cove and Roaring Fork as mentioned.

Take your kids to Magi Quest in Pigeon Forge. Do the mirror maze and the magi quest stuff. They will eat that shite up.

Tubing in Townsend may be a fun adventure.

Dollywood of course.

Townsend

Best area to stay in by far. Very few people, no tourist traps.

If you do go to Laurel Falls, go a little early. I went in the afternoon once just for a quick afternoon hike and we had to park on the side of the road a good ways down because of a lack of parking.

Don't have time to scan the thread, but has anyone made the obvious reference of you ending up getting into a fight with the man that named you Sue after making it into Gatlinburg in mid-July, just hitting town and your throat being dry?
