My twins are 7. Oldest was 3 when they were born. It’s a bitter sweet crazy fricked up ride. Cargo shorts/pants are your friend. frick the haters.

Same here. There should be a twins dad club here in BR.

The OP will learn how to function without sleep.

We have identical twin girls that are 11 now. If one woke up at night we woke the other one up as well. Helps keep them on somewhat the same pattern. One thing I regret is that we always held the same twin at night. And to this day one is still closer to me and the other is closer to her mom. So I would swap up which one you feed at night. Other than that we are having a blast with them.

I keep telling people they could make a YouTube channel of people’s reactions to finding out they’re having multiples. It is something I will NEVER forget and remains one of the best days of my life until they’re born.

When they told us we were having twins, I was holding my son. (He was 9 months old at the time.) I had to hand him to the nurse because I was afraid that I would pass out and drop him. MAJOR shock since we weren't even really trying to get pregnant so soon after our first was born. Oh, well... it was a wild ride, but now that are 12, 11, 11 and it could not be more fun.

The good news is- you got one of each, so you can get snipped if you don't want anymore kids. I'm not a parent, but I imagine one of the best things about twins is once they get to a certain age, like...4, they can entertain each other. A friend of mine has twins that are 10 and they are each others best friend and just kind of do their own thing.

I just read this whole thread and the consensus seems to be "go out for cigarettes" for the first 8 months or so.

My brother had twin girls, he said the only down side was as they got older they basically were having a "sleepover" with their best friend every night, and it is hard to get them to shut down and go to sleep.

Get a couple of podee bottles.
Google it.
Couldn’t have done infancy without them.

I haven’t read the whole thread yet, but my wife and I had twins when we turned 42.

First of all, it’s a crap ton of work at first, but it’s a blast. Just get as much help as you can for the first few weeks. Our boys are 3 now and although they take a lot of energy, they keep us entertained all the time. We are actually on our first real vacation since they were born right now and we are loving it. Good luck!

Fraternal twins as honeymoon babies, what a way to get into parenthood

We have been thrilled and blissfully unaware of how challenging it will be, and we like that approach rather than freaking out. If anyone here with twins has advice or horror/funny stories, feel free to divulge it. We are having one girl and one boy.

For now I’m soaking up my remaining time of sleep and extracurricular activities. I’m excited to be a dad.

I have 6 year old twins, a boy and a girl. They could not be more different. He is into sports and has a very questioning mind. She is a Daddy’s girl who is very imaginative and creative. She can’t stand sports and loves ballet.

As they get older, I’m convinced they are easier as they both have a built in playmate. The first three months or so are rough. You both need to get up each time in the middle of the night to feed. One person can feed two babies at once, but no one wants to do that at 2:00 in the morning. Also, when one wakes up to eat, you need to wake up the other one. Keep them on the same schedule.

Lastly, you have to sleep train them. Ours were a week shy of three months and my wife was worried cause she was starting back to work the next week and they weren’t sleeping through the night. I told her to turn off the monitor as she is too tender hearted for what’s required. I slept in the room next to the nursery. When they woke up, I checked on them and saw they were fine. I then left the room and let them cry. They did for an hour and a half before they went back to sleep. The next night they cried for 30 minutes and for five minutes the third night. They slept through the night thereafter. I can’t stress enough how important it is to train them to sleep through the nights and not in your bed or you will never get your sleep back.

Outside of that, just enjoy them. They are a true source of joy in my life.
