I was in a very similar situation not too long ago (6-7 years ago), so I started looking into job transfers. I was in a decent enough sized town in East Texas, but dating was f'ing terrible. It was a long 5 years as far as dating went. So I moved to NYC. Met my (now) wife within a month of moving there. We will have been together five years in just about 2 months, with 3 being married.
NYC wasn't for me, though. I pretty much moved there hoping to meet someone (the job was nice and a promotion, so that was nice), but the size/crowded nature of it just wasn't my cup of tea.
So about 2 years ago we transferred out to the Bay Area. Like this life a lot better. Those 2 years have kinda flown by. The weather is incredible. When I die in the forthcoming earthquake, at least it'll be 68 degrees and gorgeous.

Moved out of Louisiana in 2004 for basically that reason. There was nothing there for me. One of the best decisions I've ever made. Zero interest in ever returning

Doing it now, Chicago got stale and it's expensive as hell.

Did it. The Green Swamp is 700+ miles from home. I miss home but the quality of life for me and my family were important.
Also, prepare to pay less for insurance since you won't be paying for the bums that refuse to get it.
The quality and variety of some of the ingredients for cooking is hard to beat in LA though.

Had a friend who just did this like a week ago. Picked up and moved to Austin Texas.

Do it and not look back! If not, you'll end up like some of us (myself included) where you are tied down by family, job whatever and can't make the move.

In the 15 years since I graduated college, I've lived in 6 different cities (3 states and 2 countries). Each move has been intimidating but exciting. I highly recommend it. You learn a lot about yourself, and can apply those learnings at each new start.
