With a physician you know they worked their arse off to get that degree

I would submit getting a Ph.D in Engineering, or any of the sciences are smarter than most medical doctors.

Those nurses who get a doctorate are always having legislators submit bills on their behalf to be allowed to advertise or post signs calling themselves doctors. Luckily it's been shot down so far.

Please provide a definition of "real doctor" other than one that defends only your position and personal opinion.

Remember that the D in PHD stands for doctorate.

When someone begs for a doctor, they are looking for an MD or DO. They don't want a PHD in English. Seems like we should differentiate between that more for practical reasons.

IIRC, in French speaking countries, a PhD is a Docteur. An MD is a Medecin.

I'm okay with having anyone with a PHD calling themselves a dr, although it's pretty tacky when some of them correct you. I'm not okay with someone without an engineering degree calling themselves an engineer.

My BIL doesn't have an engineering degree, nor is he a professional engineer. He works for an aerospace company, and his official job title has engineer in it.

I agree with that and have seen that title way overused by companies and individuals who are filling jobs with people who are anything but engineers.

Does he walk around saying he's an engineer? I guess the fault is really with companies just slapping engineer in people job titles. I mean will plumbers/electricians start calling themselves engineers because they are solving problems with toilets and such?

What about a pharmacist who goes by doctor? Does that meet the OT's approval?

The retail ones don't care and don't expect it.

The clinical pharmacists on teams in hospitals get called Dr by physicians, residents and nurses without asking for it or expecting it.

At least in my experience.
