What if there was a state that was a square at the location of the Four Corners. What color would it be in order to not be touching another state that was the same color as itself

It would be one of four colors, say orange. And then two of the states diagonal to each other would be the same color, say blue.

What if 5 states converge at a single point. Like not a tri state area but a penta state

The theorem doesn’t apply to corners. Only to actual borders that you can measure.

That map is a fail, there is a red state 's border touching a red statw

They all downvoted you, but you are correct.

Rhode Island should be blue since Rhode Island and New York share a maritime border. Otherwise, it could be mistaken for a Michigan situation, where the two red chunks separated by water are the same state.

Winner winner...

The map is still doable, but RI should be blue

But yeah, they all downvoted me...because 12/13 people are either poor observers, idiots or following the crowd...
They cannot help it though, it's in our nature not to critically think

Adjacent means that two regions share a common boundary curve segment, not merely a corner where three or more regions meet- From the four color theorem Wikipedia

Slide that red to the purple, slide the top gold to where the red was and slide that smaller purple to that top right corner
