Haven't done an interview in forever and just have no clue what they may ask. Looked up some questions but they really seem so vanilla. Anyone have any recent experience in Government hiring that may ease my mind on what to expect? I am staying in same profession field just 2 steps up. Work related questions, I'm good. Just don't know about any others.

Do you like to waste taxpayer dollars and collect a huge pension?

It will be questions like that.

My experience (Army, not AF/Navy) is that theres a static list of questions they ask verbatim to every candidate, with no follow up for each question.

It's much more about a narrative in your answer than just answering the question. You have to basically guess at what they are really asking and superimpose that into your answer because there will be no "when you said you did xyz, did you..."

Once the last question ends the interview is over. It's the least practical way of interviewing someone I can think of.

I have done a lot of interviews where it was very normal to have one person reading 8 questions and then having the interviewee give rambling answers over 45 minutes with exactly zero follow up on each answer.

This right here. Go ahead and cue up two distinct answers for questions regarding "a time when things didn't go as planned and what did you do?" and a couple for "when things went well and why?"

Why must you work for government? Can't you find work in the private sector instead of living off taxpayer money?
