I've seen documentaries where former prisoners were asked about rape in prison and they said it's not like the movies. Those who get turned out, in actuality wanted to get turned out.
And it's not like you just walk in and get in fights like many think. Only time I saw that happen was when I was on the island in catahoula and a white dude came in with all kind of white supremacy tats. He couldn't even get his mat on the rack before they beat the shite out of him and ran him out the dorm. Mind you, it's about a 85:15 black to white ratio.
It's all about respect. Most people just want to do their time and go home. The ones to worry about are lifers. Essentially, they have nothing to lose and if they're young, sometimes they just create trouble.

What are some examples of where you have to stand your ground in prison? Like if someone demands you give them your roll or something? Were you nervous during your first confrontation?

Don't take shite from anyone if you can't pay it back.
If someone leaves something on your mat (like snacks) throw that shite to the front. If you eat it, it's seen as you owing them.
If someone is "picking" on you, better nut up or you'll be looked at like a punk (fig).

I would say that's true. There were several flaming gays around and I never saw or heard of anyone being raped. Supposedly all of the gay sex acts happened while inmates were at work. People assume that all of the pedophiles get taken advantage of when in reality they didn't. They all hide behind the bible and act like born again christians and almost all say they were falsely accused

It's not about getting your arse beat or not. People get beat up all the time in jail. If you don't stand up for yourself, more people will try to take advantage of you.
