As long as there is a Jody out there making oil field cash, sporting New Iberia locks, there will always be a BAW.

Real coonasses don’t come from backwoods. We are raised in the marsh. I have never heard a coonass say baw.

been hearing baw for about 40 years, I'm sure it wasn't a new term when I first heard it, y'all see that thread about Bawing and their 737 problems?

When I was coming up the word was “negre”. Ex. “Mais negre, what the hell you think you doing?

“negre”
that was a very commonly used term, don't think it would get much mileage here before the whole place is shut down because of mass bans

In French it becomes an insult with an “o” instead of an “e”. I don’t know how to put the backwards accent mark on the syllable.

My mom popped the shite out of me when I was a kid for saying that

It could hail from New Iberia though
It is most assuredly used in conversation in New Iberia and Youngsville. I seen’t it with my own ears, baw

In my experience “Negre” never had any bad connotations. It was actually somewhat of an endearing term. One of the old men might say. “ Hey negre, you want to come hunt with me today in my pond ?” or “mais negre, you better put your hands inside the boat before they get smashed! “

yep, heard it used a lot that way, especially with parents, or older people that weren't quite a full generation removed from 100% Cajun French speaking households

I grew up in Vermilion parish, it's a staple there. Kinda like man, bruh, dude, etc...
ETA: I also grew up near an old white man who was friends with my grandpa. He was referred to as "Mr. T Negre"
