I didn’t say that I am unhappy. I’m actually laying out the realizations that have led me to peace and contentment. Still have major challenges at times staying in that zone of course.

Because most people are lacking in gratitude. They are always chasing the next thing that they think is going to make them happy. Gotta keep up with the Joneses, but the Joneses seem to be always one step ahead. Mountains of debt crushing the life out of them.

I think this is the bottom line. Gratitude is the open door to abundance.

I could write forever about my thoughts on this topic.

We aren’t programmed to find internal happiness anymore. The societies are run by people who want you to consume. So instead of finding internal happiness you have to find external happiness. Through purchasing things.

The nuclear family. Gone. Religion. Gone. Tribalism and ethnic identity and culture. Gone. Self reliance. Gone.

We are animals. Happiness to us is a shelter and warm food, a mate, and progeny. Happiness is our pack and our tribe sharing in a common identity and destiny.

Now we have none of that. Our id is searching for some sort of fulfillment. And the only place we can find it is in the small hits of dopamine when we buy a shiny new toy.

This loss of cultural tribal identity is the reason why people cling to sports teams so much. It’s the only allowed outlet for this urge in our society. “YEAH. My team from my part of the country totally beat your team from another part of the country. Clearly we are superior.”

So, you’re saying there was great joy among nomadic hunter-gatherers?

This is absolutely one hundred percent the truth! If you truly pay attention to the news media, and commercials, it’s easy to see that they’re successfully programming us to be unsatisfied with what we have which causes mental chaos for most. Finances, physical belongings, love life, entertainment, career... Then we take the bait and ultimately make ill advised decisions that end up causing real issues in life. That’s why I don’t do politics, religion, commercial filled tv and radio or chase “The American Dream”. I don’t let anyone influence me too want more or different knowing damn well the price to pay in the end benefits the higher ups.

There is no such "programming". The problem is far too many people have bought into a false definition of happiness.

I'm saying there wasn't time for "happy". The concept that we have to be happy all the time just didn't exist for most of mankind.

Materialism and superficiality stem from insecurity.

Good ole Fight Club. Never seen the movie, but it's extremely quotable.
