Is this a real school? It sounds like a comedian's punchline for a bad joke. Who sends their kids to this school?

Uptowners. The church and school are on Loyola's campus.

Why are there so many private schools in New Orleans? Is it just a tradition/culture thing or are the public schools really bad?

It's a little of both. It's a very Catholic area.

That's nothing. There's a Catholic Church in Denver called Most Precious Blood.

When I consider how many former private school students I've met in my years around LSU who had significantly lower scholastic achievements than public school products, I feel justified in saying that I think private school for elementary and secondary education is a total and complete ripoff

I disagree.
Take the 3A catholic school I went to 15 years ago. we graduated close to 200 people. I would say at minimum, 170 of them went to college, whether it was LSU, ULL, Tulane, Loyola, Harvard, Stanford to Nichols and Southeastern.
Of that large number of students that attempted college, you're going to have some that weren't college material, had fun for a semester or two, and came back to reality. World needs ditch diggers too.

Point is the vast majority of private school kids are going to go to college, b/c it's assumed that's what you do after high school, and high school is centered around getting you prepared to go to college, at least mine was.

Sounds like you ran into a bunch of the ones that weren't meant for college.
I've got friends that barely made it through high school but someone managed to get better grades in college, and others who graduated high school with gpa's over 3 and flunked out of college.

The ripoff is the public school system in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, and most of the state for that matter. I would prefer my kids go to a school that prepares them for college, not for some stupid arse standardized test that is needed to pass every other grade.

Let's just be honest. The public schools are bad simply bc of the poors. That's it.
