I pound Mt Dews. Rest of the family pounds Coke. I get mine from Walgreens. They usually have a buy 2 get 3rd for free, and Mt Dew packs are 15, not 12

quote:"Inflation is coming down" means prices are still rising but at a lower pace.
But inflation is coming down people
It does NOT mean prices are decreasing.
That would be "deflation."

Much like fast food there are simple hacks for soft drinks.
We do our shopping on Saturday morning and we generally stop every couple of weeks at the Dollar General for cleaning, detergent, and paper goods. We drink about 28 Diet Cokes between us each week. The price for a case at Walmart has gone up from ~8.50 pre-COVID to as high as $12.78 but is back to $11.48 but still almost a 50% increase. Every couple of weeks DG puts 12 packs of Coke on sale for $13 for 3 12 packs slightly cheaper but it gets better. When they put them on sale they also include a digital coupon on their app for $1 off 3 you stack that with their $5 off $25 dollars and you get 6 12 packs (3 cases) for $20 so each case is just $6.67. This is $.67 per case more expensive than the cheapest you saw Coke on sale just pre-Covid.
You also get a paper 5 off 25 coupon with your receipt and my local DG will let you use them back to back. So I will buy the Coke pay and then pay for our cleaning products which also almost always have digital coupons on top of the 5 off 25. Occasionally they will have 10 off 40 which is 25% and one time in the Fall they gave a $20 off 20.01 or more coupon to app users if you had three $25 or more purchases in the last month and you could use your 5 off 25 for those purchases as long as the total pre-tax was $25.
My general impression for a lot of necessities is that if you are a savvy shopper and willing to spend a couple of extra minutes you can get a lot of things at pre-COVID prices. They just leave the prices at the highly inflated points for people that don't care or won't take the time.
FYI DG has the Coke sale running this week so with the dollar off of 3 you can get six 12 packs for $25 then $5 off for a total of $20 for 3 cases. This only works if you are willing to "debase" yourself and cross the threshold of a DG.
I never really used coupons or apps in the past but since COVID I do.

Kroger ad shows 6 pack Coca-Cola and Pepsi products on sale right now for 4/$12.00.
Ours had them (Coke Zero) buy 2 get 1 free 12-packs so we went ahead and got them there instead of Costco this time around.
A 35-pack at Costco runs about $18. 12-packs at Kroger are around $8.

People that think inflation coming down means prices are going to go down don't understand what the Inflation Rate actually is. If it's positive, and it always is, then it's that much higher than it was at this point last year. The prices aren't coming down because the inflation never gets relieved. It only grows more and more. Since WW2 the dollar's cumulative inflation rate is 1600%. Something that would cost a dollar right after WW2 now costs over sixteen.
Guess what, you think you got a raise? lol Nope. You did not.

If by “being an a-hole parent” you mean we don’t let our kids freely drink soda, then put me in that group.
Take a look at the fat fuks all around you. You be the “nice” dad. I’m going to make sure my kids don’t become obese like most of you.

quote:Wrong on both counts.
You either never had kids or you are an a-hole of a parent.
And if you just let your kids run rampant "our kids consuming drinks like they are going out of style" then you are no parent at all and are setting them up for failure (no structure).
This is not to say mine doesn't get to drink soft drinks, but there are limits.
And if you think that's being an a-hole (giving your kid structure) then you are a dumbass.
