I leave Monday to go work there for 3 months. Just wondering if it's decent and if there is much to do while I'm there on off days. Also wondering if it's high in crime being so close to the border? Lastly I'm wondering if it's too expensive and if there is a better place to look for temporary housing that's close by. The job I'll be at is in Kingsville which is close to Corpus Christi.

corpus is fine...
not a whole lot to do, and lots of mexicans. if that bothers you you'll hate it. otherwise you are close to the water and other water-related activities. if you have a boat/kayak/etc bring it

You can go stare at Selena's arse statue on the boardwalk.

Hell, you’ll survive 3 months easily. I spent about that length of time there several years ago. The thing I remember best is access to a lot of fresh seafood.

Go to Port Aransas. There are some interesting bars there. Also a fishing pier.

Downtown has a decent couple of bars to go pass time at least when I was there once a month for business trips.

I would agree with this. Port A is a nice little getaway.

Love Padre Island. Wonderful surf fishing or hit the bay with the fly rod.

A close friend of mine grew up there. It's small and quiet.

I would probably rent a beach house in Port A, however you're going to have to take a ferry every day and don't know if that is worth your time.

And that being said, I'm from a super small town and the quietness and away from the city if what I love.

If you want more city life, Corpus is the way to go.

Ha, wayyyyyyy different. It's semi small (20K people). Not on the coast. Lots of ranching there. Home of King Ranch. (Not the chicken).
