I could talk about Iceland for days. We walked in caves that were really just former lava tubes. Drove in places so remote it felt like no one had ever been there.

We camped on a beach that was named one of the most remote beaches in the world like 3 years ago. And we were probably 10 feet from the water on this little 5 foot "cliff". We hear this noise at like 4am. We wake up and the tide had come in. And no lie, right below us probably 7 feet away were 2 seals cracking open shells and eating whatever was inside.

My ex went. She said it was very beautiful but expensive and a lot of areas smelled like piss.

Iceland Air offers a stopover promotion for people travelling between Europe an America.

LINK

If you are going to Europe, you get a Iceland Air flight from BOS, ORD, NYC, PHL, MIA, etc and go to Reykavik and layover for days or weeks and then continue onto your European destination. (You could do the Iceland long layover on the return leg if you want, or both legs, they don't care.)

The only problem is that it makes the opposite leg of your itinerary have a short stopover in Iceland.

It's on my bucket list as well. To the earlier poster with the pictures, thanks.

After seeing these pics, I may want to visit Iceland now. I hate the cold though, so I would have to plan accordingly.

Greenland was named as a marketing ploy. The Vikings were trying to convince people to settle there. "Hey, let's move to Greenland, it must be better than Iceland."

I visited this past September and it was incredible. If you're into backpacking, check out the Laugavegur trail. Absolutely stunning. Literally no sign of civilization except for the campsites and you cross four very distinct landscapes in just 3-4 days.

This thread needs some pics. These photos aren't mine but they're from the Laugavegur trail, which is stunningly beautiful and other-worldly at times. Even if you're not into multi-day hikes, going to Landmannalaugar (end/beginning of tail) for a day is worth it. There's a natural hot spring and a number of cool day hikes.

Near Landmannalaugar

Just got back from Iceland yesterday. It was one of the greatest trips I've ever taken. Food and excursions can add up quickly, but I wouldn't say it's any worse than most other tourist spots. $30-45/meal is generally what we paid to eat.

Women were pretty hot. I mean you have some meh ones but the majority you're like "she's pretty cute", then they talk in that accent and it's game over. The men are pretty big douches for the most part but that's to be expected. Reykjavik is a small city, but it's booming because of tourism. So there is this weird flux of tourists and locals that all go out to the same places. We met some girls the first night, but 2 of my friends are engaged and another plays super hard to get. So he kept making us leave to do laps around the bar. I tried telling him shite is different on a vacay in Europe. After about the 4th time he walked away the girls got pretty annoyed so they left...and I had mine in the bag. I was pissed.

A couple of side notes: they love doing bumps of Coke and they do not go out until roughly 1am. Here we are back home by 2 or so, we were getting back around 5-6am. It's crazy shite. They also ONLY go out on Friday and Saturdays. The bars are ghost towns during the week.

More about Iceland itself. You can do Iceland expensive or not expensive. We rented a car split 4 ways, then threw up a tent wherever we felt like. We stayed in a hostel one night for $20 a person, and then in Reykjavik we rented an apartment for about $150 a night split 4 ways. The airfare was $1,300 or so, the whole rest of the trip was like $800 and we went whale watching, white water rafting (which was beyond gnarly), hiked in lava caves, and went snorkeling between the continents. But it's how you want to live. We were making fires and grilling hot dogs or hamburgers each night and living off of snack food and yogurt the rest of the time.

Cocaine and like to party until the sun comes up?

I may never come back. Is it good blow, or is it gonna give me the fear?
