The advertisement on ESPN 104.5 BR says bacteria or something is eating your roof away. I think it is Preux Wash.

seems like a good marketing strategy. i've had roofing contractors tell me north side algae is purely cosmetic issue.

Algae is not an issue but lichen and moss can be.

Seems pricey considering the advanced skill set to hose stuff off.

Damn right! I was thinking about doing it because of this. I read the shingle companies are saying cosmetic only unless you get Lichen but the Lichen get ingrained in shingle and washing will do more damage to pull them out.

I've had it done. Love the results! Gets that black mold off the roof and lasts about five years. We had ours done by Green Tiger. Good people.

algae does not harm the life of your roof

Wrong. Algae, over time, will degrade the shingle material by growing through it and loosening the shingles.

I did the first time. Had the roof and exterior sprayed and some pressure washing done. Came out looking great!

I think everything was around $500 the first time, but he was just getting started. Just had the roof done a few months ago; it was close to that by itself.

Good luck!

They are using the leftover surfactant from the BP oil spill cleanup.

As opposed to just time itself or the soft washing of roof?

Bleach only kills algae blooms, not the roots, which will cause it to grow back much faster. A product like Mold Armor works 10x's better. Spray it on, wait 10 minutes, wash it off... You don't even have to pressure wash for it to work. "Professionals" don't use bleach unless they are cheaping out on supplies.

I was happy after getting mine done. I got done what you want plus a window cleaning (2 story house) glass and frames, and it ran me about $1400. Very happy. Don’t just let any yahoo pressure wash (instead of soft wash) your roof or soffit and facia either.

Damn. I need to start charging more for soft washing. I charge flat rate $150 for 1 story, $175 for 2 story and $0.10-$0.15 per sqft for concrete
