Some time people turn out to be assholes all on their own. My Dad was been a awesome Dad. Raised my brother and me by himself. Our Mom died when I was 6 and my brother was 13. I love my brother but he is a selfish a-hole. Always puts himself above everyone else.

Did it this morning actually. It feels pretty good so far, I'll let you know if it changes.

Do you ever feel any guilt?

Always. However, my blood family is/was made up of a bunch of alcoholic, country fools with no ambition in life. Living a life of stupidity like they were wasn't what I wanted. I had to get away from them all in order to lead a better life.

I'll still talk with my sister from time to time, she's the last of my blood family currently still alive. All others have either died in some way by alcohol, drugs, or whatever other crazy shite they got themselves into. My sister is a good person, but recently diagnosed with lung cancer from smoking like a train since she was like 15. Do I feel sorry for her? Of course. Does it surprise me? Not in the slightest.

I tried to get her to follow my lead and leave, but she didn't and look where she is now.

Cutting off from my family is the best decision I could've made for myself. Doing so was very hard for me as I did still love them, but in such situations you need to just look in the mirror and realize that the person you're looking at is the only person that will ever truly have your back.

OK, you're as beloved here as Venezuela is appreciated in Colombia.

Better?

Sad but in almost all situations true.

I said something similar to this in another post and got nothing but grief. I think it was along the lines of "I'm the only one who will ever take up for me."

You don't know my dysfunctional family. I skipped my niece's wedding because of the way her dad treated me earlier this year.

I don't want to be in the same room with him.

I am not unhappy with the way things are.

I stopped caring a long time ago. It's the only way to stay sane.

I'm sure it's all their fault.

I'd be lying if I said I did it all by myself. Luckily the friends I had were very supportive of me and helped however they could. I won't go into details, but without the help of my friends there's no telling where I'd be right now.

I have a brother who plays victim constantly. He has grievances with practically everyone he has ever met. His failures are all based on other people letting him down. He is the very definition of a millennial.

At this point I would seriously probably never talk to him again if not for my mom. Dad would be so pissed to see what a pussy he turned out to be. It's unreal.

No. I was with parents and 2 siblings. It was not the best Christmas. More like Festivus.

I had a better time on Thanksgiving cooking for 2 LSU grad students that couldn't go home for that holiday. One is a native cheesehead and the other from Los Angeles area.

my family all live in Michigan.. don't talk much...

Not sure why... We just don't see things the same way I guess... Since I have been sick they have sent some well wishes and some money to help pay some bills.

My wifes Family is MY family now...If I lived in Michigan I am sure we would be closer... I would never just give up on family... Just doesn't seem right IMO.. I am sorry that anyone would have to feel the need to do this...........
