I think you're reading too much into the axiom.
I think a lot of women believe that. I think a lot of men do too.
People are always saying dumb shite like "The wife is always right." or "You'll be in trouble if you..." or "You'll be sleeping on the couch if you make her mad."

I don't have one since I don't have kids, but minivans are the shite. I don't get the hate.

On those I agree with you. I don't think "happy wife happy life" is so insidious. I mean, everyone is happier when the people around them are happy. It doesn't say anything about sacrificing your own happiness.

Nerds that start threads about dudes and how they're treated by their wife are GAF.
We get it. You want to find reasons to tell your parents about your new boyfriend.
Just tell them. If they love you, they'll accept your lifestyle and, hopefully, have y'all over for cocktails.

I had the opposite mentality when I was young. I saw all of these guys completely whipped.
I lived by the Snoop Dogg motto of "bitches ain't shite but hoes and tricks".
Now, looking back, I cringe when I realize how by being "alpha" in the relationship I treated these girls like total crap. Now, it was great from my perspective and I had a lot of fun at the time. But looking back I was a total dick.
So realize that there is a happy medium of not being a wimp in a relationship yet not treating a girl like a dog.
The woman you want to marry is the one who isn't going to expect you to be a pushover in a relationship and get mad and be passive aggressive when she doesn't get her way. You have to have mutual respect for each other. Because living like the guys you described in your OP would be no fun.

I get what you're saying. And I personally think its pathetic. Now days though, people mistake alphas for being an a-hole or piece of shite.

I just don't get it. Who would want to live in a world where their S/O acts like their mom? No balance in the relationship. The dumb husband/smart wife meme.

Great post
Right on cue the manginas and white knights are here to downvote
My favorite one are the chumps who need a man cave. WTF? You get one room in the house for yourself? Who paid for most of the house? You or your wife? So why does your wife get to dictate how the house is used?

It's not at all about treating women poorly. I just feel like both parties should make a legitimate attempt to make the other happy, not be patronizing. Too many women have this idea that their happiness in the relationship is paramount and that a relationship should be based on that.

I do reasonable things to make my wife happy, but I consistently piss her off because I call her out when she's acting like a crazy women. She gets mad for a few hours and realizes I was right and we move on. I love my wife dearly and she's truly the best person I know but women can be crazy and the best thing to do is call them out and stand firm.

Exactly what it is.
Just like in the dating advice thread. I get downvotes because people are jealous that my approach works, not because its wrong.

Yep. Treating your woman like shite or being condescending =/= a healthy relationship. Allowing yourself to be dominated also =/= healthy relationship. I just don't see how telling one party in the relationship that they are always right and that their happiness is paramount, is a healthy way to build mutual respect.
