Louisiana was already a corrupt and dysfunctional crap hole with no roads and bridges before Huey P Long. Huey P Long made Louisiana a dysfunctional crap hole with infrastructure.

It sucks exactly as planned. Ain't any large ships going further upstream to unload.

Wives tale

The first Huey P Long bridge in Jefferson Parish that was finished in 1935 is tall enough.

The one in Baton Rouge was finished in 1940. The river gets too shallow north of there for those ships anyways. They wouldn't be going past Baton Rouge even if the bridge wasn't there.

And a chicken in every pot. A true socialist that gave our state away. One of MANY in Louisiana.

It would have only increased his popularity and he’d have won the presidency

I have little doubt of a scenario where Huey P Long runs in 1936 but FDR wins the Democrat nomination. Huey runs 3rd Party, splits the vote with FDR, and Alf Landon wins. Huey comes back in 1940 and wins the Democrat nomination and wipes the floor with President Alf Landon and wins in 1940.

People speculate that was his plan. He was running in 1936. He had his campaign song out already.
