Each service stripe = 4 years
After 12 years with no disciplinary action you can wear gold instead of red. If at any point you get in trouble you can get knocked back to red... then the 12 yr counter starts over.

The Captain of a US ship of war is one of the most powerful people in the world.

This was true until very recently. Now you get red until you get 3 stripes, 12 years, then it’s gold. Can’t shame those sailers anymore don’t you know.

The AF did away with Warrants in 59 (the last one retired in 1980). That was until 2024 when the AF brought back the program.

Combat Controllers can drop more ordinance than any USN vessel can provide without getting VLS restocked (carriers excepted). This comes from the kid of a squid.

If any of you talk with lefties on the regular, read the book, "Six Frigates." We were drowning in debt as a country, and yet we were building massively expensive frigates to shut down the slave and interdiction trade run out of North Africa. There's a reason the Marine Corps hymn talks about the shores of Tripoli.

Yeah but CWO’s are like unicorns. You hardly ever see them and they are quite stealthy so even recognizing them makes it difficult.

I knew a bunch of CWOs when I was in.

I still got my first in 3 somehow but my first sergeant just had the staff duty runner leave it in front of my barracks room door.

Not in the Air Force or Space Force.

I was thinking about signing up with the Army back in the day because you could become a WO flying helicopters with just a two-year degree.
The thought of camping out next to my helicopter in some German forest in winter turned me off to the idea.
