All we know is what the shooter said and that the deceased was high. We know his criminal past. I made a judgment based on the history of the deceased and the shooters statement. Instead of rushing to defend the deceased and call the shooter a racist like so many of the mouth breathers in this thread just looking for the next fabricated gotcha moment did. You said it yourself and I agree, their are two parties involved here with two very different interpretations. More facts need to come out. If that happens, I will reevaluate my thoughts on this incident. Until then, I am going to side with the guy that doesn't have a criminal past and wasn't likely intoxicated at 1 am.

At least you are obvious about who you are.

Right. I don't know the story.. but you don't just go firing randomly because you suspect something.. especially when you make comments about freaking blacks. Again, if that is what he said.

That is high incompetence you shouldn't have a gun with that type of action. I don't think so at least.

Again, one last time. I don't know all the facts.

There are now more pictures included in the article linked in the OP. I would think the shooter will be in serious trouble either way, but the only way I see the charges being lessened is if the window he shot through was covered like the one next to it.

Heck, it may make it worse if it was covered because it shows how big of an idiot he is and that he could have easily killed a child/kid who lives in the neighborhood, a cop who showed up due to the 911 call, another adult neighbor, or even someone coming to the neighborhood to attend a party.

Based on what he said on the 911 call, his actions afterward, seeing the pictures of the window the guy shot through (no way the garage door was even slightly open) and knowing that he was totally safe inside an enclosed garage, I think the guy just out-and-out purposely committed murder.

quote:

Monday afternoon, glass lay in the driveway and front lawn where the blast apparently came through the window. Blood stains and bloody gauze were left in the yard about 30 feet from the garage, a few feet from the street.

No mention of the box material covering the 1st window being in the driveway or grass, just the glass. If nothing else the guy should be put away for being an idiot. I wouldn't feel safe if the guy lived in my neighborhood.

Neighbors and HOA say they don't have a neighborhood watch

quote:

Just before a man was killed by a shotgun blast from a home in North Raleigh early Sunday morning, a man inside the house told a 911 dispatcher that he was “on neighborhood watch” and was going outside to secure his neighborhood against a “bunch of hoodlums.” But residents and a manager of the Neuse Crossing Homeowners Association say the neighborhood where the fatal shooting happened does not have a neighborhood watch. And police say that where homeowners do organize neighborhood watch programs they are told to call 911 when they see suspicious or criminal activity, rather than take matters into their own hands.

I am assuming that is the window he shot out - packaging box covering the opening where the window was.

The 911 recording may have caught the shooter saying, 'I'm gonna kill 'em' before the 911 operator spoke.

Here is the 911 recording (also in the article linked in the OP).

https://soundcloud.com/newsobserver/singleleafcall-1

At the beginning, before the dispatcher speaks, sounds like he says either, "No, I'm gonna kill 'em" or "No, I'm gonna tell 'em."

Yeah, frick that guy.

Like I said in my first post in this thread, he is nothing but a coward.

quote:

a man inside the house told a 911 dispatcher that he was “on neighborhood watch” and was going outside to secure his neighborhood

quote:

At the same time, they released a recording of a 911 call from a man inside the house early Sunday who told a dispatcher that he was “locked and loaded” and preparing to go outside.

quote:

Police say Copley stood behind his garage door and fired a single shotgun blast out a window that killed 20-year-old Kouren-Rodney Bernard Thomas

So much for going outside. He lied about that aspect of the event. Prosecutor is going to have a field day with this guy.

Probably the case. When I first saw it I wished they had backed out and shown the whole door.

My next door neighbor has all his windows covered with the shiny insulation stuff. I asked him if he was a vampire and he said he did it for insulation.

This would not surprise me in the least. The guy didn't plan or act this out very well. He lied about the neighborhood watch and going outside to confront them before shooting the guy through a window. Doesn't seem too bright to say the least.

Yeah, he's going down. He'll probably plea down.

Listen to the second call on the recording. Somebody said they got bit by a king cobra. LOL

Reminds me of the 911 call they play every once in a while on Houston radio. A guy - Joe was driving down the road and a deer jumps out and hits his car. He thought it was dead so he stopped and threw it in the back seat. As he was driving the deer awoke, bit him in the neck and kicked the crap out of his car. He pulled over to call 911 and was attacked by a dog that he said wanted the deer.

A guy street racing through a neighborhood and acting belligerent while shouting profanities at a home owner? Lots of value there. I am certain.
It's always a good idea too 100% trust the guy who shoots warning shots right at people.

Brilliant!!!

quote:

The facts as we know them are the dead guy and his buddies(likely all on their way back to college), were brandishing a firearm and shouting profanities. At 1 am. When confronted by a resident, they refused to leave.
The facts? Are they the facts?

Did this actually happen, or are we assuming it happened based on the statements by the guy arrested for murder?

Cool. Good for his GF. It's too bad she couldn't keep him from street racing and brandishing fire arms at 1 am.
The shooter actually never said the deceased was street racing or had a fire arm, you do realize that, right?
