Random 80s thoughts...looking back as a kid I never knew anyone allergic to peanuts. I can't recall anyone being autistic...we did have a special ed class, but I think those kids were more handicapped than autistic. I used to take my 410 and go squirrel hunting by myself at my grandma's house when I was surely not a teenager yet. As a parent I can not fathom this now.

Any other memories from you guys?

Yep.

I pity younger people because their childhoods sucked.

I grew up in the 60's & 70's so it was pretty much like that except we had better music.

Didn't have to wear a helmet to ride my bike. Got a motorcycle when I was 14. Was pretty much unsupervised from dawn til dusk. My mom would just say, "Go out and play" and I'd go off in the woods, go fishing, ride my bike, whatever.

I didn't know anyone with Parkinson's.

No one was allergic to gluten and the only person like that was Vinny Barbarino who lived in a plastic bubble!

A friend of mine has a son who's allergic to peanuts and he looks forward to work trips out of town because it means he can eat peanut butter and reese's.

Random 80s thoughts..

I remember me and my friends regularly riding our bikes 5 or 10 miles away from home before we were 10 years old. Gone for whole days at a time without any kind of checking in. I don't know who thought we were more invincible, us or our parents.

I was going through my whole 20's in the 80's [born in 1960]. It was the best decade of my life and its not even close... Kids today at 20-25 years old would have never made it tgrough those days... It was ALOT harder.............

I did....2 or 3 in my class.

I knew a couple of families that sent their autistic child to a "home". Autism wasn't understood and autistic kids weren't allowed in public schools.

I used my pellet gun to kill 2 in my yard today...near downtown dallas.

Well do you know that many now? Or do you think it’s more widespread because you hear about it online?

Diagnosing has gotten alot better over the last 30 years. They were probably around, you just didn’t know.

I swear I bought a shotgun on my own at Walmart when I was 12 in 1983. Only person with me was my best friend - also 12 years old. Today this would be viewed as insanity.

I remember we had neighborhood bullies. The older kids that would just chase you and maybe give you a punch or two, but nothing too fricked up.
And my friends and I would have sleepovers and devise goonies/monster squad type plans to get back at the older kids.

Also, parents would just drop my brothers and I off at the mall or bowling alley and we would dump quarters in the video games.
A little later (90's) I remember "winner stays" street fighter tournaments at the arcade with lines 20 deep to beat the local champ.
