It was always Buggy until the smaller double decker ones came out then it became cart.

My grandmother referred to sacks as pokes. I know that's old South, but it's probably an Appalachia thing.

MWF it's a buggy.
Tues, Thurs. and Saturday it's a cart.
Sunday its a basket.
At least, that's how I've always done it.

Buggie. Cart is a more general term that can be used to describe any number of various types of carts used in a retail facility.

My wife and my 10 year old grandson from Pittsburgh have that argument all the time. I'm gonna go with (shopping) basket because that's what we always called them in the retail business.
