That bear was still guarding that dead carcass a week later. The wildlife all fight for it. While I was there, the bear left, allowing the wolves to come by.

That elk was probably close to 1,000lbs, Grizzly probably 700lbs. I saw footage of a battle between a bull elk and grizzly on Lorne Greene's Wilderness show when I was a kid. It occurred on land and shallow water, the bear was gored and even lifted by the elk a little, before it spent itself and tried to run. The grizzly won a hard fought dinner.
