I have a Kamado Joe. Couldn't be happier.
In early March we had a couple days of crazy winds. Strong enough that they actually blew my 500 pound grill off of the patio. The only thing that was damaged was the firebox inside. I emailed the company asking what i needed to do to get it replaced, and within half an hour, they had sent a replacement my way via Fed Ex. Gratis. That's unparalleled customer service, IMO.

This past weekend I cooked in a chicken wing contest and we used 3 XL green eggs. Went great and couldn't have been happier with their performance. So many people had to keep tending to their smokers, adding wood and coals, relighting, etc... Green eggs are so easy and maintain heat great. Never had to add wood during the whole event...8 hours of cooking time and could have gone way longer
And that's exactly why I said these things have no business in competitive grilling.

I feel like some historian/grilling enthusiast realized some cultures just made 2 clay pots to keep even temps. I feel like I can make an Egg with two garden pots from Walmart for $50.
Somebody watched Alton brown make a $50 smoker on good eats, I see. Terra cotta pots for the win.

I'm leaning toward the Kamodo. It's a little bigger cooking surface, has a 20 year warranty and it looks better than the others IMO.
Your customer service story may have taken it over the top. Thanks.

WTF is all this discussion of cost???
This is the OT damnit. If you aren't buying the most expensive product possible and then tipping the guy to deliver it with crisp $100's then you are Beta.
BTW, I am a confirmed member of the BGE cult. I have had mine for years (before the other brands were around) and love it. As stated before, I could probably get the same results with a $100 cooker but I would have to work much, much harder at it. I enjoy setting my fire temp and then sipping cold ones while that ceramic behemoth does all the work.

I have been looking into buying a komodo as well, and have done a good bit of research into them. As far as quality goes, from what I can tell the Komodo Joe and BGE are both top notch. The Bayou Classic, however, has some reports of weak hinges and poor seals on the ashbin causing leaks that lead to temperature difficulty. From what I understand, the KJ comes more complete, i.e. comes with a stand, whereas the BGE stand is extra, so that makes the KJ a better value in my eyes. All that said, I think I am going to go with the el cheap Akorn this summer. I am afraid I won't like cooking on it and I want to avoid throwing away money like I did on my pellet pooper.

Because they are more efficient?

Without having to adjust it for 14 hours while it maintains perfect temperature? No.
If all you're going to do is come in and shite on a thread and not give the OP actual advice, then don't bother posting.
Okay, I forgot you owed the board, random nobody poster.
These ceramic grills are nice in many ways, but the prices are asinine.
I can keep a damn good temp on a cheap arse $69 electric Birkman smoker. So that is weak as well.

I mean I could throw a Smokenator and PartyQ on my Weber kettle and claim it maintains temps better than a stock BGE, but that's not a fair comparison now is it?
and you need attachments on a BGE to really set it and forget it for 14 hours as well.
I do agree that they make perfect steaks, but so does an infrared grill.

No. BGE does not come with a decal to put on your truck.

No. Because they require no skill. One of the biggest keys to good BBQ is a consistent smoke and a consistent temperature. Being able to do these things with a smoker is (or it use to be when I competed in the KCBS) a key skill for someone competing in a BBQ cook off. Anyone can prep meat and put it on a grill for a set time. The real skill is making that grill do what you want it to do constantly for anywhere from 6 to 12 hours or even more.
These new automatic smokers are great for home, but have ruined competitive grilling.

I can't speak to the BGE, but yea, my KJ was assembled. All I had to do was lift it into the (included) nest, drop in the firebox, and tighten a few bolts.

I believe there are different classes of competition. BGE/Primo/etc in one class, and traditional in another

Ceramics are automatic? Is it possible that good cookers also use ceramics?
Does Jack Nicklaus still use persimmon drivers?
