When you do the math, from a financial perspective, blaming eating habits for the inability to get ahead for young people is like stitching a facial gash while ignoring the bullet wound in the chest.

I never claimed this. In fact I’ve been claiming it’s all the now necessary required bills like cellphones, internet, car insurance, medical insurance , and homeowners insurance that have cause this.

But unless you’re eating absolute shite food from restaurants, each meal is going to cost nearly $15 for lunch at a minimum and $25 for dinner.

You can absolutely still make most meals for fractions of that price.

we need a young people awareness rally. Or some govt programs.

No we don't. We need government programs to stop protecting boomers and their government retirement programs.

2008 didn't help millennials, it helped boomers.

Our government has been propping up boomers for too long now.

Again, what’s your point? Yes, houses are expensive. Yes, food is expensive. Thank the jackasses in DC and the love for big government spending that has deflated the dollar. By the way, your generation seems to love big government just as much if not more than previous ones. So you’re not exactly blameless in that.

I don't think we're on opposite sides of this in reality. Yes, if you eat out every single meal, it will be more expensive than cooking at home. My point was sort of yours that even if you clean up your grocery/eating out budget, the other listed expenses have blown past that savings anyway.

why are we acting like millennials don't cook? I cook 90% of our meals.

quote:

According to a 2022 survey, 90% of North American millennials cook at home, and 6.7 days a week on average. 63% of millennials cook at home because it's healthier, and one in five would rather have a special meal at home than go to a restaurant. Millennials also spend more on groceries and food at home than other generations, averaging $112.83 per week on groceries and $5,867 per year on food at home

Well, hell, there is another boomer myth debunked.

The point is your pov is outdated and ignores facts.

At least do some homework before you spout off b/s. Boomers & Gen X favor democrats by 6 pts and 11 pts respectively.

Boomers like yourself are the most selfish, boorish assholes on the planet. You were born at the perfect time in history to generate wealth and all you have done is sell the country down the road to enrich yourself.

You then have the nerve to bitch and complain at the younger generations to "work harder" when you could live a stable, secure life with a measly high school diploma.

The first generation to leave their children and grandchildren worse off is how your awful cohort will be remembered by history.

Good riddance.

Because they're married to a narrative and facts won't change that stance.

Nobody fricking said we were!!!!!! Just some damned acknowledgment that the economic landscape is significantly more challenging now for young families than it was in the 60’s, 70’s, 90’s, and 90’s and rhat a LARGE portion of the reasons for this are government overreach by politicians during this time and in the early 2000’s.

This. It's not so much that the Boomers didn't leave a hand out behind. It's that they burned the bridge behind them and then bitched from the other side how we should do it like they did.

Why did you not list millennials and zoomers? Not convenient to your pity party?

Why did you post an inaccurate generalized opinion blaming millenials for a party your supports?

Another funny feature of the housing market is the boomer CEOs forcing their workers to work at the office despite modern technology providing the means to do otherwise.

What are downstream effects of that? More people forced into cities where the boomer invested commercial and residential real estate sits, higher rent costs, smaller housing units or long commutes into cities. I.e., tolls, gas, car maintenance, higher car insurance, more accidents.

Nearly everything in America is geared towards boomer wealth.

If younger workers could work more remote they could live further out and afford more housing and more space for kids/families.

But stupid boomer pension funds need cattle in the areas they've got money invested.

Remote work may be viable for some industries, but I still believe firmly that to build an organizational culture you need to physically be with people.

I know that’s an outdated view, but remote work just doesn’t fit for certain industries.

Many situations where that's not even debated and there is just an Old school mentality about remote work.

Remote work should be available where it's possible. I don't find that to be the case.

Here. I’ll tell you since you don’t want to. Millennials and zoomers went 65% for Biden in 2020. And it’s looking like he’ll get your vote in 2024 also.
So I guess your generation isn’t too upset with the status quo.

That's only a piece of why, housing especially, is so expensive. A lot of the problem is NIMBYs at the local level. Zoning to limit the types of housing and where housing is built. Seems like every new development proposal gets cries about traffic, crime, or think of the bighorn sheep that graze there two weeks a year (Vail is the worst).

Remind me again, who raised that generation you seem to hate so much?
