Yep. I lived in Carolyn Park and could be in the Quarter in less than 10 minutes if you hit the lights right down St. Claude.

Yah, I wish I still lived down there when I attend Pelicans games. It feels like I'm making a voyage going back to Slidell.

A good friend lived in arabi near the barracks and we would be there in no time.

I live in a neighborhood close to the Barracks, and work downtown, and couldn't be happier about it. It's quiet, rent is cheaper than the majority of the NOLA metro area (compared to the house I am currently renting), and very little crime. I used to live on Campagna, and moving to Arabi saves me 10-15 minutes every day on my commute.

BTW, the old recreational park system was awesome. Versailles kid, here.

Gladiators was the "who's who" of St. Bernard for a long time.

Now, Aphrodite was where it's at. All women.

The ball parks. When I grew up there, youth athletics pitted neighborhood against neighborhood. You lived in Buccaneer Villa North, you played for Vista; you lived in Arabi, you played for Carolyn Park, etc.

This is one of the things I miss the most growing up there pre-Katrina. Each age group was different but for mine baseball was owned by Versailles and Rebel, basketball was Vista and Carolyn Park, football by Kennilworth and Rebel, and Bourgemouth or w/e was competitive in almost all of them.

This was so true. I lived on Angelique until I was 8. I was playing basketball with some older kids in my parents driveway. I remember I just got my chain net. Well, I told one of them my family was going on a vacation the following week. My mom was in the yard and overheard me telling them this. She came to the front and told everyone I had to come inside to get ready so they would leave. When I went inside, She yelled at me and told me those boys were going to steal from us when we were gone. When we got back from vacation, not only was the house broken into but those assholes stole my net. The house went up for sale that week.

My dad bought a lot down there when they first built the subdivision back in the late '70s. The only thing its good for is a grass-cutting bill from the Parish, couldn't give it away if we tried.

Looking back in it and it was a good place to grow up. Most don't realize how close we are to the city.

You can always tell the difference between someone who went to say Hannan and HC/MCA.

Kids who went to Hannan or one of the public schools rarely ventured outside of the Parish and never had any friends from NO, Metairie, the Northshore, etc.

Because we went to school in the city, we met a lot of other kids from outside of it. I went to school with guys who commuted from as far as Buras and LaPlace.

If a girl says she went to Hannan, run. She'll never want to live more than 5-10 min from her momma.

Very true Corky. I graduated with a guy that drove in from Luling every day.

The Grove.
Randazzo's Hi-Lan Bakery - jelly donuts, king cake, mixed cakes (cookies), anything they made or sold.

It really is. The improvements they plan on making from the Jackson Barracks to the Battlefield for the Tricentennial are really top notch.

Old Arabi is already in the midst of it. Long time property owners in the Marigny/Bywater are selling for big $ and buying much cheaper places in Old Arabi, that have a lot of similar architectural elements.

shite the first time I went to buds I was in college. Junior and senior year we would get our alcohol at a daq shop and either head to the lake or the quarter.

Yea I'm from meraux but after going to holy cross I spent more time in New Orleans and Metairie than anywhere else. It's great to be FROM the parish, but even better to have gotten out the parish.
