I will say this about Edwards. He was a Trump-like figure in his day. He could pack in supporters and could captivate an audience.

One biographer wrote that Edwards had the audience so captive that he could have read from the Sears catalog and would have still have their full attention.

What???? Did you just move to Louisiana?? The dude had a massive cult following. So much that he was a contender to run for congress AFTER getting out of jail. The guy literally said, "the only way I can lose an election in this state is to get caught with a dead girl or live boy" and he wasn't wrong.

You may not be overly familiar with Edwin Washington Edwards.

All of his personal and public scandals were forgiven because the folks just liked his style. "Win one for the zipper!"

His comeback campaign was styled after a messianic revival..."Somebody's coming..."
