Anyone else getting surveys like this?
quote:

Parent Survey
We need your input as we plan for the start of school this fall.
* Required

Which building will your children be in next year? *
Grade School
Middle School
Both Buildings

Do you intend to send your children to school this fall as long as health department safety guidelines are in place? *
Yes
No

Are you able to take your children's temperature each day before they leave for school? *
Yes
No

If the public health department requires students and staff to wear a mask throughout the day will you send your child to school? *
Yes
No

Are you able to provide transportation for your children if social distancing on school buses is an issue for the district? *
Yes
No

If the Health Department guidelines do not permit all students to be in the buildings, do to social distancing requirements, which of the following options would be your preference? *

Full time remote learning at home-with increased expectations and support
-or-
A combination of in person(2-3 days a week) and remote learning

If remote learning is necessary do you have internet access at home to use with a district provided device? *
Yes
No

Do you have any other concerns we need to consider?

It is really crazy how they're even considering completely remote learning. 2 months out so I guess the decision will have to be made in the next month. The school district ended their year by telling the teachers to work on webcam backgrounds that make it look like they are in the classroom.

My old high school attempted to finish the year with remote classes. It was a miserable failure.

I can only imagine how poorly it would do in a public school.

Id be fine with it tbh and ill have a K and 4th grader. My K has already been in the elementary school for pre-k, so I wouldn't feel too bad. Id want my tax money back / incentive though for the cost of my students that goes to the school. However much my kids are worth to them, deduct how much the learning costs. Ex. If my kid is worth 10k each and online comes out to 4-5, give me the other half.

What? You mean you have a job or something that may keep you from staying home all day?

My two year old can take his temperature. Not that he can read it, but still.

If you aren't able to take your child's temperature, or have their care giver do it, you really should not have a child.

How are 2-3 days contact any safer than 5? Who watches public school children the other 2-3 days when their parents work? I don’t know very many people who can only show up 2 days a week to work or afford to pay a babysitter while they work.

My great grandmother's nursing home posted on FB today, visitors are now allowed but only for one hour at a time. Same concept, it just does not make sense to me.

Bro, this is public school we’re talking about here, a government school, they haven’t thought that far into those questions.

Just tell them that your kids plan to start a BLM protest at the beginning of class each day, so no masks or social distancing will be required during the day long protests.

You know the kids don't teach themselves right? Well in some schools they probably do, but there are still others there.

I have no clue what my old HS/MS will do. We were the biggest class to ever go through that school system with about 160 students back in 2009. Now they are pushing 220 per class. They already had expansion plans, those were put on delay. Now they will need even more expansion. What a mess.

We NW Washington were told pretty much the same thing, that both in class and virtual learning was an option and most parents opted for virtual learning because of the mask requirement. Stupid, I know. Then they reversed course once they were told it would be a 6 hour per day virtual class like homeschooling. At this point, my 11 and 7 year olds' best friend is a dog, they need to go back to school. Between my wife being home and helping with school and me being on deployment this entire time, they're ready to go back to school to be with friends.

Tell them you won't enroll your kid but will homeschool instead. If enough people do this, it'll get their attention because fewer students means less money.

Most of the plans for schools going back that involve kids going twice a week are so they can reduce the numbers of kids in class at a time. Student A goes to school Monday and Thursday, student B goes Tuesday and Friday. Wednesday is used as an online day and the schools clean heavily, etc etc.

Honestly, the biggest issue for schools is going to be teachers getting sick and not having any subs. At the high school I teach at like 60-70% of the subs are retired teachers, all of them 60+ agewise, so you know they will be staying at home. So once teachers get sick we'll have at best 30-35% of our subs trying to cover an entire district, and I'm sure a ton of them won't come back due to schools being germ factories.

Online school sucks arse, and I want to be teaching in my classroom this fall, but it's going to be a mess unless stuff trails off in the next month and a half. And here in AZ at least we are having new cases like crazy.
