Why would you assume the driver and trooper might otherwise inherently despise each other ?

A Good Samaritan is a compassionate person who voluntarily helps a stranger or someone in distress without expecting any reward or personal gain.

Years ago a trooper and a psycho got in a gunfight on the interstate. Crazy guy was out in the road running around a car to get an angle on the trooper and a big rig trucker saw what was going on and ran the dude over.

I remember thinking, while they were talking about it on the news, that the trucker made one hell of a split second decision. That is definitely one where you better not be wrong about what you think you are seeing happen.

That’s how it’s been adapted. Do you understand the Biblical reference that he was making?

I’ll bet Nora O’Donnell was threatened to be fired if she didn’t make that report. She looked like she was about to throw up the entire time having to report that a citizen actually could own a gun and use it to defend someone being almost beaten to death.

Those CBS reporters gotta be grinding their teeth reporting this story.

Yes because it’s been taken out of context so much that its meaning has been watered down.

What makes the Samaritan so “good,” is that the Samaritan helped a Jew. They inherently despised one another for centuries. The robbed and beaten down Jewish traveler in the Bible was passed by and avoided by fellow Jews. It was the despised Samaritan that helped him.

Doing good to others without an expectation of reward is a call for all of us as Christians. What’s more “good” when we can help those that also hate us?
