A couple of things-

-Nearly all large steel buildings have fire resistant coatings that significantly inhibit the fire's affects on the structure. This was blown off by the impact of the 200 ton jet flying 500 miles per hour.

-I'm not sure that you'll be able to find a comparable example of a building that withstood such a dramatic impact and didn't nearly instantly collapse.

-Given that the impact severely damaged the structural integrity of the building, the remaining steel beams wouldn't have needed to weaken that much to cause failure.

-This fire was well beyond anything that any building is designed for: 80,000 pounds of jet fuel burning at high temperatures.

-Lastly, and I can't stress this enough, the main cause of collapse was not the impressively large steel beams that makeup the visual framework of the building; it was the much smaller connecting trusses that failed. The buildings were designed with an inner core and outer shell connected by said trusses.

If the impact was so great, why didn't it collapse on impact and why did it fall straight down and not in the direction of the force applied?

I don't have all of the answers but apparently YOU do. Tell me how it was all done, I am just dying to read YOUR account of the plan.
