We have no idea. My wife inherited this kind of unexpectedly a few years back. We want to keep most the land but sell enough to build a little weekend house/barndemeniom. Asking the OT is our first steps through this process, ha.

As said, look at your neighbors properties and see if any of them are looking to timber soon. If you are not in a hurry, this would be a better way to increase your income. If you can talk some others into harvesting together and get a couple 100 acres you'll get better bids and prices.
Eta: if you are looking to break it up, I'd wait on timbering until you figure out your long term plan. Newly timbered land can be a lot less desireable for smaller tracts, you may be able to make more money by selling mature pines and the acreage together over getting it logged and then selling it.

can you detail this a bit more for me. if an individual bought some timber property and is not necessarily harvesting any timber so to speak.

i don't currently own any land but have been interested in purchasing some type of hunting property.
possibly could do a harvest forestry plan, select cut etc
