Wife and I just started dipping our toe into the water on a truck for her, and I keep seeing stories about this. Really wanted a Tundra, but those new ones are crap. Finding a Ram with the 5.7 is nearly impossible.

I’m really gonna have to go with the F150 5.0 or F250 7.3 gasser, aren’t I?

With modern manufacturing techniques, building engines the old way would result in some insane life expectancy.

You're describing LS engines prior to AFM.

Or the L8T 6.6 GM puts in its HD trucks.

Why not a used Tundra with the 5.7? I think they were made up until 2021 or 2022.

Does the new one have a variable displacement oil pump?

You didn’t drive it several miles if you actually threw a connecting rod.

Standard volume pump.

Where are you seeing issues with the gen v lt1, lt4, or lt5 engines?

If Trump gets rid of this stupid shite that automakers force upon consumers so that they can meet some pie in the sky fuel savings mandate, I'd be willing to vote him in as emperor for life.

Ain’t just automakers. Any new piece of equipment that runs on diesel is mandated to have be tier 4. Complete piece of shite.

This thread is terrifying. Guess I won't be looking at new trucks for a long while.

Yeah I periodically get the itch to buy a new truck. And then I read threads like this and happily drive away in my bulletproof 2016 Tundra. Eventually I want a Raptor, but spending $80k for a truck oughta come with some piece of mind that it’ll last.

Railroads have avoided buying the Tier 4 locomotives like the plague for the most part. They're expensive and unreliable. Rebuilding old locomotives instead to avoid the emissions crap.

A pushrod or valve maybe.

Kind of hard to bend a lifter.

Honestly my 2017 F150 with the 6 speed has been really solid. No major complaints.

The 5.0 Coyote is a damn near bulletproof engine. What’s frustrating is Ford only offers this engine for the Lariat, not the Platinum or King Ranch.

They were rated at ~200k miles but that was due to limited total mileage testing done. GM said at that mileage it showed no signs of soon failure so they figure the belt could last MUCH longer than that but they couldn’t publish a specific higher number due to the limited test data.

All new cars are junk. I’m looking to buy a new car and it sucks. All the transmissions are CVTs which are terrible. Rather just keep my 2010 Malibu but I got a baby otw

I just sold my 5.3 Silverado with AFM and am buying a late 90's GMC.

They aren’t without their own problems. The reason I was reading this thread is I’m considering trading a 2019 f150 v8 with 88k. I’ve had problems with rough idle and shutting off. Started with cam shaft positioning solenoids going bad. Got them repaired and it improved but did not eliminate issues. Just spent 2k on a new starter and spark plugs and thought that fixed it. It just shut off on me yesterday (I disabled auto stop). It’s frustrating and no one can seem to repair the issue. I was thinking of moving to a Tahoe.

The 5.0 now has cylinder deactivation now too, since 2021 I think
