I wish I could buy the equivalent if a 1998 Z71 but brand new. But nothing newer in tech than 1999 other than safety.
. Modern trucks are just too expensive

This is the sticker on a '97 Z71 extended cab.

As you can see, the sticker was over $28k back in '97.

Today, you can buy this Quad Cab 4x4 Silverado for less than $27k, and it is an exponentially better truck.

Remember, back in '97 you weren't buying trucks at $10k or more under sticker. So factoring inflation, you're coming out way ahead on the new trucks.

I’d punch everybody in his threads mom right in the ovaries (mine included (no pics)) for a 1997 Z71 in great shape.

I wonder how cost effective it would be to take one of these, redo the suspension, put a crate motor in it, and redo the interior.

Came across one for sale on FB that was bone stock except for clear marker lights for $4000. Exterior was fantastic and interior had only normal wear.

MrsWafer (no pics) shot that purchase down before I finished asking the question.

The Yukon Denali and Escalde seem to inhabit sort of the same space though.

I've had a Yukon, a Denali, and two Escalades, struck me as odd how much difference their was between quality of vehicles that were made by the same company and marketed as competing products, I thought the Escalades were buckets of bolts compared to the GMCs

There is legitimately a huge gaping void in the market right now for a base pickup that is truly utilitarian. First company to figure this out will make a fortune.

How much more base than regular cab, small engine, vinyl floors, no power accessories, etc do you want? If the market was truly there for something even more utilitarian than that, someone would build it.

That exact truck would cost $44k today due to inflation alone.

in my wallet too, never had any issues with the GMCs, the Caddys started falling apart just about the time the warranty expired, dumped both of them, they both had some serious electrical issues, and cosmetically didn't hold up that well either

I am pretty sure you can contact any dealership and build exactly what you want and have it delivered in a month or two. If people want a specific thing they can have it.

Cadillac has been at or near the bottom in reliability for quite awhile.

I read that GMC Yukon Denali buyers typically have higher incomes and higher net worths than the average Cadillac Escalade, Infiniti QX, or Lincoln Navigator buyer despite being less expensive than all three. The Denali brand essentially hit the exact audience intended by the manufacturer, then sells in higher numbers than more exclusive luxury brands due to the more vast GMC dealer network.

Ford has tried to mimic that success with the King Ranch editions of their vehicles. More recently, Lincoln, Buick, and Chevrolet are also doing the same with the Black Label, Avenir and High Country editions.

Paid 45k for an LT Tahoe last year, the GMC Yukon equivalent was 53k. Some people see the 8k difference, some people don't. That's why they make chocolate, and vanilla. To each his own.

I will be in the market end of next year for a truck. Will probably get Silverado. We have had great luck with Chevy products. Our Traverse is 10 years old with 170k miles and has had shocks, brakes, and oil changes.

The new Traverse is pretty sweet, but I’m partial to the Suburban.

They’ve been selling Suburbans for something like 80 years.
