That’s a fricking statement that they skipped right over La/Ms and went to Al. They basically rewrote their business plan to minimize corruption.

How did Louisiana miss out on all of the car plants over the past 20 years? BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Toyota, Kia, Nissan.....all new factories spread out across all southern states except Louisiana and Arkansas.

Probably because people want working cars. Not lemons because Boudreaux was fricking around during the engine install.

Why are our leaders (governor) not constantly trying to speak to these big industry boardrooms? I’d have a special office just for negotiating with them on special packages. This state sucks arse.
We need to change TOPS so only STEM degrees and eligible for free tuition. Too damn many kids getting general studies and sociology degrees to either leave or stay put and wait our tables. Also need more trade schools teaching useful skills besides welding and pipe fitting.

It’s almost as if companies don’t want to invest in a state with crumbling infrastructure, massive traffic, poor public schools, an unhealthy populace, corrupt politicians and subject to frequent hurricanes

Not to mention a heavy litigious state with ambulance chasing attorneys on every billboard.

Employers are immune to tort liability in Louisiana if their employees are injured on the job.

I know a number of people that work at the Toyota plant in MS. If you work at Toyota it's their way or the highway. They don't play around. If there's a sign by the sidewalk on the Toyota property that says keep off the grass you keep the frick off the grass

Taxes, poor education system, infrastructure, high crime rate, etc. Not worth the investment once you factor in all these things.

Get ready for many billions not to be spent in Louisiana for years to come. Thank Gov.Edwards, Together Louisiana socialists, trial lawyers, RINOs in the legislature and local officials who never seem to get enough of vilifying and extorting companies that do business here.

Funnily this is part of why a lot of car plants have moved to this area. Socialist power generation has its benefits.

Louisiana operates a spoils system where they can pick winners and losers. You either get a handout or you pay a bunch of taxes to pay for the handouts. Republicans celebrate these incentives without realizing they are our demise.

If you want to truly cater to industry and keep people here long-term, you eliminate LED, tax credits, etc and do across the board tax cuts.

I doubt GM or any other company factors that into their decision making. Lots of states have that (Florida for one) and that doesn’t stop companies from relocating there

General Motors plans to spend $2 billion to convert its Spring Hill, Tennessee, assembly plant

Says everything right there in that first sentence. If you still can’t figure out why the spent $2 billion there instead of untold billions elsewhere like here then you’re not the sharpest tool in the shed. Plus besides the costs of the physical plant, one assumes they already have a labor force and most likely unions to contend with.

Yes. The problem with Louisiana is 100% without a doubt the Republicans. It's just that simple.

For sure.

I was having a conversation with my brother about kinda related topic the other day.

Louisiana is so entrenched in big oil, how would a good government (if we could ever somehow get our State government to be good) even diversify industries without wreaking massive havoc and losing tons of jobs and economic activity? For example, I would like to see LA invest in hydro power, but to do that where would the money come from? Would we have to take away from big oil tax cuts? That's obviously going to be very unpopular.

LA is in such a shite situation.

Well see, there's the trick. Good luck getting a corrupt government that spans over a century to somehow wake up and actually be good. There are so many kickbacks and lobbyists deeply entrenched over decades of quid pro quo deals.

If Mr. Joe Blow of Acme Corporation doesn't want GM to build a plant, and Mr. Blow gives enough money to the right people, well then damnit. GM will not build a plant here. Plain and simple. Or if GM does build a plant here, you will have this guy and that guy running to the meeting asking up front what GM will do for roads or education or anything else the state neglects. GM will be there to discuss the plans, and will get bombarded with demands and requests before their asses hit the seat.

Meanwhile, you have states like Alabama and Tennessee who are open to the idea of bringing in a major player to build a plant that will employ citizens of the state and will be a win/win situation for everybody.

That they actually had started building and were willing to eat those costs rather than play ball with our corrupted system is most telling.

Good luck to you if that was your take-away from the critique on the Louisiana spoils/tax credit system. It'll never get solved, I guess.
