The new Tundra engines are dogshit too.
The problem with the early engines has been fixed, is my understanding. It was a manufacturing issue that’s been resolved. Are there are other problems reported?
Probably the Ford 5.0 is the best bet for reliability but don’t they have transmission problems?
How has Ford avoided having to put AFM in the 5.0? Is it bc they sell enough ecoboosts to offset?

Came so close to buying a 6.2 lt sierra denali last December in Opelousas. They wouldn't take $700 under listed price. I bought the same truck with a 5.3 a week later in Slidell. Lucky me.
See, I would’ve paid extra for the 6.2. 5.3 was fine but for the Hugh cost of these trucks I insist on more power. 5.3 isn’t that fun. It’s fine.

They haven’t, unfortunately. It’s now on all 2024+ trucks with the 5.0.
Supposedly no issues though and very easily defeated.

The 5.3 is fine really. The AFM system is still junk but if you do the delete on it, helps tremendously.
I'm still a fan of the LS3 motor. 6.2 and no AFM.

I’m no engineer, but how is it possible to mess these up this bad? Don’t they test etc before releasing a new engine?
Why would anyone buy a car from a company that can’t even make an engine right?

The issue with the GM engines is they use cylinder deactivation to improve fuel milage. The lifters that ride on the cam lobes which push the rods up and down that open and close the valve will collapse and the valves no longer operate and the lifters will ride the cam lobes to the point of shredding them causing all of the knocking noise.
Some engines last longer than others but ultimately they will fail at some point as opposed to engines that don’t use the cylinder deactivation. Even if you disable it the lifters can still fail.

Most GMs prior to 2016 are good. 2016 and after have terrible problems with transmission and more recently models (2018 forward) with engines.
