China is just waiting for Obama to sign the nuclear deal with Iran. They will gobble up Iran's 1-2 million barrels that will put on the market. The oil field ain't bad yet. The deal with Iran isn't about nuclear power, it's about oil. Deal will destroy American drilling. Obama doesn't want a green energy world. Just America.

I would imagine that people spend more than $50 in gas throughout a month.

Or are you saying that is how much you save?

Is this the daily thread to make fun of oil field trash and plant operators?

Who says they are trash? Nothing says intellectual sophistication more than lifted pickup trucks sporting a sticker that reads: "oilfield trash spending oilfield cash".

In all seriousness, people are generally paid what they are worth. Good for them if they've developed a skill set that is worth $80,000+ per year without a degree. The country would be better off if people could do that so easily in other industries.

Think it is a great time for the U.S. to be aggresively topping off its strategic petro reserves.

No doubt, but it's not going to send someone into financial ruin either.

The same people who complain when gas prices are high (that they can't travel, etc.) are the same people who make candy crush the top grossing app.

Gas prices aren't a game changer and if you could see everything people buy, there would be some room for sacrifice.

Yup, oilfield trash will have to get rid of their F250s and 100,000 dollar bayboats, and truck nuts...forgot how expensive those were too...

Also no more stay at home wives, they cost too much too.

For businesses it can have a big adjustment on their bottom line, but average households aren't going to see much change.

Those fuel surcharges aren't going anywhere with these cheap energy prices.

What kills me is that it is a cyclical industry. EVERYONE knows that. If there is demand for a skilled tradesman and that turns into to a 100K salary then by all means that's just honest, good supply and demand and I'd encourage those workers to make as much as possible.

But you better damn well be smart with that money, save some, invest a little, hide it under your cushions, whatever! You know at some point maybe tomorrow, maybe three years there will be a downturn and jobs will be lost.

Some do this, but so many go buy their King Ranch with that first check and then new tits and an SUV for their wife with the second.

It's all about making smart decisions. I work for an airline and I know that all it takes is another 9/11, or another oil price spike to turn our world upside down (though I think we do a better job of managing to high fuel prices now). Just my .02

to all those who work a for a living

It doesn't help America and especially the South for oil prices to be too low.

It is doing no favors to Russia and Iran right now - so that's not all bad

Oil field workers make great money with minimal to no skill. Tough to call most of em "skilled" workers, but they do deserve the money they make.

BUT, quit saying you make unusual sacrifices so your families have better lives. No shite. We all do that. It's called being a fricking adult. Away from your family? Yeah, ok. You also have half the fn year off, so.....

Second, gas prices are down. Your sweatin being layed off. I get it. Now stfu. You want that high paying job with minimal skill set? That's the job. You want job security? Well, saddle up and get in school. Even then, there's no guarantee.

It is great that all O&G workers are lumped together. There are plenty of chemist and engineers out of jobs right now as well.

Everyone harps on saving their money, but you can't live indefinitely without a job. Be out of work a few weeks and you start to sweat no matter who you are. It isn't natural for someone with a good work ethic to sit at home, no matter how much buffer they have built up. Because that buffer is their savings that they have sacrificed to save up.

I think it is a humbling thing to sell your car or boat when you are having to live off savings.

well, let's see. The US economy can have $300 billion more to spend elsewhere OR they can voluntarily pay $300 billion more just so that some people in South Louisiana and Texas can have more money.

Hmm. Tough choice.
