Yeah unless you are really close with him, a simple gift card to a restaurant and a card is fine.

If you are a close friend, invite him over for dinner, BBQ, beer, scotch, or whatever. He may want to get out of the house for a change and have someone's ear to chew.

I’d get a nice plant. And, a meal or two for them in about 10-14 days when things slow down. I bet that would be appreciated.
