But someone who can (and arguably SHOULD) reciprocate

I'm the oldest. I got my younger sisters presents until they had kids. Now I get their kids presents.

Just stop buying.
My sister is 5 years older than me, and made decent money right out of college so she always bought me tons of stuff , holiday or not through high school and college while I never bought her anything . Once I graduated and got a decent job, she just stopped buying me stuff , no biggie.

But someone who can (and arguably SHOULD) reciprocate and they blow it off is a different story.
Maybe it's not the norm, but I think it's ok, preferred imo, for all siblings to stop swapping gifts once everyone is established and on their own.
I certainly don't think you should take it personally. I just think you should stop buying him stuff, that's all.

Fair point. But part of the reason I'm posting is because it's not just me. I can see how one doesn't buy presents for an older sibling/uncle/cousin, whatever. But not buying for parents or for an even younger sibling is outside of the norm, at least in my family

Some people just aren't big on giving gifts, or maybe his funds are tied up in bills/student loans, etc.
Do you only give gifts on birthdays/holidays you see him? I've never been one to really ship gifts to adult family members I don't see during the holidays, but do exchange with the ones I'll be with. I think we are all pretty much on the same page on what everyone is spending so that it isn't one sided or some are spending way more than others.
You could always just buy him some good beer or whiskey, I feel like that's a good gift even if he doesn't reciprocate because he'll probably crack it open there and share with everyone.
