In my 20s I was a slave to time. I think most people are then, but as you get older the natural rhythms of life take over and conflicts develop, anxiety and depression follow. You gotta make time work for you.

On weekends if I go to be bed at 11:00 and wake up at 7:00 that is the sweet spot. I Donny get more than about 5-6 during the week, so eight on weekends is awesome. Anything more than eight and I feel groggy and mope around too late in the morning to accomplish anything meaningful.

If I drink I sleep a lot less. If I’m sober, I can sleep until 10 if I let myself.

Huh? I have averaged 6.5 hrs per night for about the last 25yrs

Unless you are in the extraordinarily small group of people who doesn't need 7-9 hours every night, you've likely shaved years off of your life if you've actually averaged 6.5 hours a night.

But maybe you have that genetic mutation. I don't know you.

6-7 is normally enough for me. I usually go to sleep around 8-9p, wake up 3-4a.

I can’t remember the last time I stayed up past midnight when I wasn’t out drinking. I used to love staying up late too

Also, what is happening between the hours of 9 to midnight that is so captivating for people?

That’s my quiet down time to read and relax before sleep. I enjoy drifting in my pool late also with no sounds from neighbors. I just need less sleep now than I did before. I’ll nap midday on weekends usually.

8-9 hours of sleep is awesome if you have the time. 6 or less and most of us will feel sluggish.

I usually get 7 hours.

I'm trying to get back into this. Adulting is hard. I finally have disposable income, and after a shitty day it's just so damn easy to get desert and stay up late.

Staying up late destroys going to bed early

After my wife and daughter go to sleep, I can actually have time to myself. I can watch TV shows that I want, take care of projects that I can’t do while they are awake, etc

I used to be able to do that, but since getting a CPAP I can't. 9PM bed time results in 4AM wake up

I'm more of an 8:30-4:30 guy but I see your point. Getting to the office at 5am or so while the rest of the world sleeps is my favorite part of the day.
I had insomnia for the last 15+ years and although I'd stay in bed 8 hours, I usually got 2-3 hours of sleep per night, broken into 30min-1hr intervals. I finally found a sleep med that works without the hangover and now get a solid 8-9 hours and I've never felt better.

Not sure how you plebs lay in bed till 9 and sleep for over 8 hours, much less 12. Lazy, worthless, sack of shite. My tax money is paying for this bullshite.

Anyways I don't even fall asleep till 12:30 to 2 and I'm always up a 5 or 5:30 at the latest. Yall could follow my example and be a reproductive member of society.

overrated unless you have something going on. Waking up early is amazing with nothing to do but watch the sunrise.

Nothing better than a nice sunrise with the "cool" morning air
