Travel plans, for which you have already paid, are a valid excuse. Call the Clerk of Court's Office and tell them what is up. They will have you fax/email a copy of your plane reservation and they will excuse you by putting you back into the potential pool for a later date.

Or just don't show up and have fun with the Bench Warrant. Or be a lying prick and shirk your civic duties another way.

When asked if you'll be an impartial juror, just respond with

"What race is the defendant?"

Or

"What are your feelings on jury nullification"?"

What's your best excuse?

I'm not going to this crap since I'll be at the Bama game over the weekend.

Aren't there exemptions? Just use one. Like if you have a kid just use the excuse that "Has legal custody of a child younger than 12 years of age and the person’s service on the jury requires leaving the child without adequate supervision;"

Do they actually even check that shite?

And this is the universal get out of jury free card.

Usually you'll know something about the case.

Drug case? Say you think drug laws are terrible and everything should be legal.

30 year old dude sleeping with a 15 year old? Say why is it any of my business what two people decide to do in their private life.

If it is murder case or something just say you have a family member who was a victim.

Recently went through voir dire and the prosecutor had gotten a codefendant to plea out and testify against her accomplice. Prosecutor was asking if the jurors would "listen with an open mind to her testimony". I asked what the terms of the plea deal were, and if she was facing jail time for her crimes.

I was excused rather quickly.

I know everyone's experience is different....but the two times I was selected for jury duty were absolutely fascinating. Two Second Degree Murder cases..both ending with the defendants being found guilty and receiving automatic life sentences without any possibility for parole. I actually have jury duty again this Thursday, and am secretly hoping I get picked again. Both of my prior experiences gave me a peek into the underbelly of society and were real eye-openers. Besides, it's our civic duty.

You should go. I did mine down in Angleton, Brazoria County.

As soon as they heard I was a Safety Engineer (at the time)..They wanted no part of me. I swear those paralegals couldn't write fast enough.

All I did was answer their questions truthfully. What I have found is lawyers don't want people who think or ask questions on juries...they want people who listen and make judgements based on the evidence. I'm too much of a "what if" kinda guy. I guess that personality came through in the selection process.

Tell them that ALL black people are guilty regardless of what the evidence shows. Might even get you permanently excused from future jury duty.

Serious answer: Plead the 5th when they ask if you've ever done drugs. Sure as the sun sets in the western sky you'll be off that jury.

No one wants to serve on a jury. Everyone loves to complain about ridiculous jury verdicts. 'Merica!

As has been mentioned, call the clerk and let them know you'll be out of town when it starts. They'll excuse you and put you back in the rotation.
