That's probably the best way if you don't endorse physical punishment.

My dog jumped when she was a puppy. I would hold a flat palm horizontal to the floor and above her face in the moments she's excited and she would be running at me but before she would jump. I would then in a firm voice say, "Down". I would hold still myself in an authoritative way, not responding except by continuously holding my palm over her face. She would then instinctively sit and I'd then reward/pet her. After about a month, she was broken.

I now use that hand signal anytime I want her to "sit"

If he is jumping up on you try this:

When he puts his paws up on you grab him at both ankles. Squeeze slowly and tightly around his dew claws until he wimpers. At the first hint of a wimper say "no" forcefully and then drop is feet back to the ground.

Knee him in the chest enough to knock him back. He'll figure it out. I did it to my dog, and I do it to other people's dogs. They get the point.

I don't give dogs treats for acting like they are supposed to. Negative reinforcement has always worked best with me.

he's young, he'll grow out of it. if he's still jumping like that in 5-7 years then you've got yourself a jumper

if you can teach him how to sit, yell "sit!" whenever he starts jumping and praise him and toss him a little treat.

Dog training, cheap and did wonders for our dog, had the same problem with jumping. Hasn't since.

Good fricking luck with that. I have a English Bulldog that thinks he's half kangaroo.

Mine too. That breed description was way off on that part.

Best part is when the whole English Bulldog part catches up with him and he busts his arse

Quick knee to the chest when he jumps on you. I only did it twice to my dog and he hasn't jumped on anybody since

Well, I can tell you we just lost a 4 year dog due to severe back trauma, which the doc said was prob due to his excessive jumping. he jumped all the time and a great pet. i guess his back just gave way. extremely sad.

For jumping on people: Have them knee him lightly in the chest or kind of step on his back paws when he jumps up.

For jumping on everything else, keep a jet-spray bottle of water handy and just give him a few shots when he jumps on something.

If he jumps on you stomp on his back paws. As for the other jumping...not much you can do. Dogs are dumb.
