German engineered vehicles and maintenance

Asking for a friend ...
Assuming going back to the dealership will be a very costly endeavor, even for the basics of services.
In the BR area, is there a preferred mechanic's shop that does regular and unscheduled maintenance on these vehicles?
Vehicle make is an Audi if that helps.

I hate when people try to buy a "German" vehicle but can't afford the maintenance

Looking to not get raped at the dealership doesn't mean you can't afford it. Don't be that guy. No one likes that guy.

Owned double digit BMW and Audis, you will pay out the nose for service but get back in a rewarding drive.

This person's situation is anything but that.
They are very smart with their money and make a good living, which is why they are in a position they are. Spending extra money at the dealership on service for the "sake" of it would be wasting money for the sake of wasting it.

Even if you have the money having to waste your time at a dealership is enough reason to drive something else.

Just make sure the independent is Audi certified and uses OEM parts and you/ they should be fine.
I take it the car is out of warranty?
What Audi?

AudiCare. All maintenance covered for 4/48k with a loaner car. I think the prepaid cost was about $800. I've had no unscheduled maintenance.

No, vehicle is in warranty ...

Q7.
They're just looking for a "certified" repair shop (not a parts changer) for the vehicle when the time comes and one that also handles oil changes and minor maintenance.

That's not a bad deal - it seems.
Curious if they can add it after the "sale?"

Buy a Bently manual (not the car make the publisher) for your vehicle and get your parts at German Auto Parts .com

I think you can, though not 100% sure. That said, I still have some time left on my factory warranty, so not concerned with it just yet.
I do have the wheel/tire insurance on mine, and that saved me $1,050 for a new wheel last month...

Gotcha,
I've been in Dallas too long to recommend, sorry. If they're were here Id have you covered.

If it is under warranty, why not take it to the dealer? Genuine OEM parts.
If you friend is as smart as you say he is, he should know this...also gets a loaner car.
You can extend the warranty (not to be confused with AudiCare--that is scheduled maintenance) beyond 4 yr./50k as long as you do it before the car reaches 50k miles.
Audi uses a 3rd party for extended warranty out to 100k...so does Porsche. BMW covers it themselves if you purchase it out to 100k.

Audi owner, maintenance at the dealer can be a shock. Find you a crusty grumpy old gearhead that loves Volkswagens and technology. He'll save you shitload of money.
If you like to work on your own stuff, be prepared that the Germans love a tight fit, the tolerances are a son of bitch in terms of getting things to fit just right and getting to to parts.
Things you think should be easy to get to won't be at all, they really do engineer them so that you bring them to Audi dealerships for everything.
However, I do love the way it drives and doubt I'll buy anything else when it comes to a sedan.

They're not anticipating any issues while under warranty ...

But it's always nice to have a back-up plan for when things go wrong outside of warranty.

Hell, the tire was fine, that was solely for the rim.

GF's BMW burnt a valve when they didn't put enough oil in it after service. Just because it's a German car con't assume the service dept is any better than the GM dealership down the road. They have the same baws working there.
