This is not a good idea. Such a slippery slope.

I don't get he slippery slope argument against this particular action. Georgetown owned slaves. They sold those slaves. Now they will treat the descendants of those slaves just as they would the descendants of other folks in the "Georgetown family."

So glad my school doesn't do this affirmative action crap in any respect. Just invites problems.

A&M was founded 11 years after the 13th amendment was ratified. You'd be safe anyway.

At what point does writing a wrong that can be specifically assessed turn into "white guilt"?

I don't need to apologize to the descendants of these slaves from Georgetown, but they sure as hell can.

Really? It's not a particularly spectacular leap to make.

Yeah, most schools already have a discriminatory admission process. Just that it discriminates against middle class Caucasian students.

When the majority of white women start calling for reparations for the 144 years their ancestors lived in the US without the ability to vote then we can talk about lazy.

Why would a white woman need reparations she has been on easy street since the white man murdered rape and stole from the Indians.

And you can nod all you want. This is coming from the guy who is still working on where your/you're applies, so you'll have to forgive me for not buying your bullshite.

I won't be struggling with your/you're for long once I get accepted into Georgetown.

Isn't Georgetown a private institution? They can do whatever they damn well want. No it is not reparations. It is making themselves feel better about themselves.

It's incredibly frustrating to see just another spot taken for non-academic purposes when you work with high school kids who work incredibly hard to get into out of state, private Universities like Georgetown.

It's their school, their endowment, their student body, their prerogative. not sure where we all fit into this unless you are an alumnus.

Who'd have thunk you'd have a problem with a woman who can actually make money independently without mooching off the government.

Sure, they can do what they want. But knowing kids who are working to apply, especially for their business school, you want them to be able to have the best shot to get into the school they'd like to attend. They shouldn't be above criticism just because they're a private university.

I doubt you pay much in taxes on a guidance counselor salary. How much do you get in a refund and tax credits?

It's funny how people like you come out the wood work to critique something that will benefit black people.

"White guilt" only exist because of white disingenuity .

Had white people followed up with their Christian faith, and laws, and this countries ideals after their mistakes, this wouldn't be our problem today.

Exactly if my people would have gotten our 40 acres and a mule we wouldn't be getting dem big refund checks, welfare, and food stamps. Now get back to work so my people can sit at home get pregnant and use your tax dollars.

I wouldn't be a fan if you replaced white women with black people in this scenario. As I said earlier, I'm not a fan of giving up academic spots and giving admission preference for non-academic reasons. You're the one making the poor jump in logic that it's exclusively a racial issues.

I'm single without children. And working a full-time job. I'm definitely not getting any tax handouts on this end.

Georgetown sold slaves for non-academic reasons seems legit to me.

Oh I understand, I'm just pointing out that there are very few schools that fit the specifics of the situation Georgetown is addressing. A&M wouldn't be one even if it did spread to all other schools with the same situation.

Georgetown doing this and widespread reparations are still quite a few steps away.

Now, the school said it will give the descendants of those slaves "the same consideration we give members of the Georgetown community" when they apply.

Did Georgetown just admit that until this rule, they were purposefully discriminating against the descendants of slaves?
